Background

The Ethiopia Agricultural Transformation Institute (ATI), in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture (MoA), has adopted a cluster-based strategy for agricultural transformation, in which the Instituteโ€™s activities are focused on clusters of high-potential woredas and selected commodities. The ATI has identified several dozen Agricultural Commercialization Clusters (ACCs), which are used to promote good agricultural practices and institutional mechanisms to increase yield, expand marketed output, and improve the efficiency of agricultural markets in selected agricultural value chains. The International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) is a learning partner in the program and is currently conducting the programโ€™s mid-term assessment. IFPRI is seeking a qualified collaborator who will contribute to the mid-term evaluation, mainly on data analysis.

Scope of work

As part of the above-mentioned evaluation, the IFPRI research team has already collected a baseline and midline data, and the research collaborator will help in the organization and analysis of these data. Specifically, the collaborators will be responsible for the following activities:

  • Organize and clean the baseline and midline data, focusing on key outcomes of interest.
  • Analyse the data and generate descriptive and econometric results on the impact of the agricultural commercialization cluster on access and use of improved technologies, production and productivity, commercialization, income, and household welfare among others.
  • Contribute to the write-up of a draft mid-term evaluation report.

    Level of effort and required expertise

    The duration of the collaboration is for 4 months (September 2024 โ€“ December 2024) with 70 days level of effort. The assignment requires a collaborator with at least postgraduate degree in Agricultural Economics or Developmental Economics and the collaborator should have strong Stata skill and experience on microeconomic analysis including impact evaluation methods.
