The International Water Management Institute (IWMI) is an international non-profit, research-for-development organization that works with governments, civil society, and private sector organizations to address water-related challenges in developing countries and scale up solutions. IWMI is headquartered in Colombo, Sri Lanka, and is a CGIAR research center with offices in 15 countries and a global network of researchers operating in approximately 56 countries.

IWMI is seeking a skilled Dashboard Developer to support the development of the Water Availability and Demand (WAD) Tool in Kenya. The role involves creating dynamic and user-friendly dashboards while collaborating with key stakeholders.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Discovery, Preliminary Design, and Wireframing

Conduct initial stakeholder meetings to understand project objectives, requirements, and expectations. Document findings and create a detailed requirements specification document. Develop preliminary design concepts based on gathered requirements. Create wireframes and mockups for the user interface and user experience. Incorporate stakeholder feedback and refine designs accordingly.

Data Preparation

Format and clean data to ensure accuracy, consistency, and usability.

Dashboard Development

Develop the dashboard based on approved designs and requirements.

Testing and Quality Assurance

Conduct thorough testing to identify and resolve any bugs or issues. Perform functional, usability, and performance testing to ensure a seamless user experience.

User Training, Maintenance, and Support

Develop user documentation and guides for onboarding and reference. Conduct training sessions to help end-users navigate and utilize the dashboard effectively. Monitor dashboard performance and implement updates or fixes as needed. Provide a support channel for users to report issues and request assistance.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

Essential:

A degree in Data Science, Statistics, Geospatial Modeling, or Engineering, with extensive practical experience in developing visualization tools and dashboards\u2014a minimum of 5 years post-Bachelor\u2019s or 2 years post-Master\u2019s degree.

KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

Essential:

Proven experience and a demonstrated portfolio in publishing and sharing dashboards. Strong hands-on expertise in creating interactive dashboards, reports, and visualizations. Proficiency in cleaning, structuring, and analyzing large datasets. Understanding of fundamental statistical methods and data modeling concepts (e.g., joins, data blending, calculated fields, level-of-detail expressions). Knowledge of effective data storytelling principles, including layout design, color theory, and user experience. Ability to tailor dashboards for different audiences, including technical and non-technical stakeholders.

SKILLS & ABILITIES

Essential

Basic understanding of scripting languages (Python, R) for data preparation and workflow automation. Strong problem-solving skills for troubleshooting data inconsistencies, performance bottlenecks, and design challenges in dashboards. Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams, gather requirements, and effectively present findings to both technical and non-technical audiences. Strong documentation skills to clearly outline processes, methodologies, and best practices. Relevant certifications (e.g., Desktop Specialist, Certified Associate, or Certified Professional) are desirable. Additional data analytics or BI-related certifications to demonstrate competence and credibility.

LANGUAGE PROFICINECY:

Good written and oral communication in English.
