About this position
The Health, Nutrition, and Population Division (SCL/HNP) is seeking a professional with a background in economics or social sciences and experience in project monitoring and evaluation.
The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), established in 1959, is the largest source of financing for economic, social, and institutional development in Latin America and the Caribbean. The IDB provides loans and technical assistance to both the public and private sectors.
The Social Sector (SCL) has a multidisciplinary team committed to the belief that investing in people is the key to improving lives and overcoming development challenges in Latin America and the Caribbean. Together with the countries in the region, the Social Sector develops public policy solutions to reduce poverty and improve the quality of education, employment, social protection, and health services received by citizens. The Sector鈥檚 work aims to foster a more productive region with equal opportunities for men and women and greater inclusion of the most vulnerable populations.
The Health, Nutrition, and Population Division (SCL/HNP) is responsible for the preparation and supervision of IDB operations in borrowing member countries in the areas of health, nutrition, and population. This includes developing strategies for health capital investment, strengthening health networks, health system financing, organization and performance, among others. Currently, HNP manages a portfolio of 41 projects.
What you鈥檒l do

Provide input to improve the quality of content throughout the project lifecycle and the documents associated with project design, execution, and closure.

Support the analysis of the HNP project portfolio and the monitoring of its execution, including project performance, trend identification, and detection of deviations from operational goals.

Support the management of the HNP portfolio through data analysis and evaluation, as well as risk management of the portfolio and individual projects. This may involve, as needed, interacting with project team leaders.

Support efforts to increase operational efficiency by analyzing project data sets to be used in decision-making processes. Based on the analysis results, dashboards may be designed and developed to facilitate the monitoring of operations.

Analyze, aggregate, and process operational data from the portfolio to prepare presentations and reports (e.g., for health project portfolio reviews, or for monitoring corporate indicators).

Support the generation of analyses and reports and monitor critical milestones and deliverables to ensure better performance and execution of individual projects and the portfolio as a whole. The sample of projects will be selected in coordination with the division鈥檚 operations advisor. Critical milestones are selected by project team leaders and may include both newly designed projects not yet in execution and those currently under implementation.

Assist in the analysis and consolidation of information to aggregate results achieved by the portfolio, including those from Project Completion Reports (PCRs).

Support the review of Project Monitoring Reports (PMRs) and Project Completion Reports (PCRs).
What you'll need
- Education: Bachelors degree (or equivalent advanced degree) in economics, social sciences or other fields relevant to the responsibilities of the role.
- Experience: At least 2 years of progressive experience in project portfolio monitoring, tracking, and management (at the national, regional, or sectoral level). Experience in database management. Knowledge of the Bank鈥檚 monitoring system for Project Monitoring Reports (PMRs) is highly desirable.
- Languages: Proficiency in Spanish and English, spoken and written, is required. Additional knowledge of French and Portuguese is preferable.
