5 Steps to get a job in the United Nations

.

1. Purpose of the consultancy

To review evidence, contribute to designing, assessing implementation of intergenerational approach to strengthen primary health care (PHC) in selected countries in the Western Pacific Region.

2. Background

Countries in the Western Pacific Region have made significant progress in reducing newborn and under-five mortality and increasing life expectancy in the past decades. The improvement in survival of the early period of life has also posed new challenges such as non-communicable diseases (NCDs). โ€œThriveโ€ beyond โ€œsurviveโ€ is outlined in the Global Strategy for Womenโ€™s, Childrenโ€™s and Adolescentโ€™s Health (2016-2030), and is highly relevant in the Western Pacific Region, where prevalence of NCDs is increasing and countries are moving towards aging society. Further, many health and social issues, obesity and other NCDs, poverty, lack of education opportunities and abuse are strongly linked across generations. Countries in the Western Pacific Region have requested support from WHO in improving primary healthcare which requires inter-generational approach such as prevention and management of obesity and diabetes. Western Pacific Regional Office (WPRO) will first assess the burden of diseases that cut across life stages and generations, review evidence on effective interventions both through community engagement and health systems strengthening and seek strategic approaches to tackle diseases that cut across life stages and generations while responding to requests from countries.
