5 Steps to get a job in the United Nations

Project Context and Scope
IOM works to promote international cooperation on migration issues, to assist in the search for practical solutions to migration problems, and to support the systematic and humane management of migration in order to provide humanitarian assistance to migrants in need.

ย The โ€œSupport to the Tรผrkiye โ€“ Italy Bilateral Cooperation on Cross Mediterranean Migration Irregular Flowsโ€ project aims to contribute to improved management of migration flows and cross-border mobility in the Mediterranean, through better cooperation andย establishing bilateral migrationย dialogue throughout the mobility continuum.ย 

The project will conduct informative sessions, participant discussion sessions and survey ย to analyse the perception and attitudes among members of the academic community from the eight universities targeted under this activity, with regards to topics such as migration, xenophobia and human rights practices.ย The consultant is expected to assess the awareness and perceptions of the target groups on migration through informative sessions and participant discussion sessionsย with students, academics and university staff and to observe and report on the prevalence of xenophobia, stereotypes and misinformation and to provide an in-depth look at human rights practices.ย This report will contribute to the analysis and understanding of the perceptions and fears that feed xenophobic and discriminatory stances towards migration among the academic community and needs of foreign university students to address the obstacles hindering social cohesion, and an overview of cross-country comparisons of human rights practices. The primary research results will contribute to the content of the informative meetings for university students and discussions at the workshops for academics.ย

In accordance with the primary data obtained from participant discussions, will be conducted during the field visits to raise awareness among Turkish and foreign university students about migration and to enhance social cohesion between host and foreign communities. Informative sessions and interactive workshops will be held at eight universities located in provinces with a high concentration of foreign students. Each informative session will last two days. On the first day, the participant discussion sessions with students will be conducted before an informative session with an estimated 300 participants consisting of university students. An online survey will also be shared on the first day. On the second day, the discussion with academics and university staff will be conducted and a workshop will be organized with an estimated 50 participants of academics and university administrative staff.

Neither IOM nor any of the Project partners are required to provide any physical facilities for the work of the consultant. However, depending on the availability of physical facilities and at the discretion of IOM and/or the relevant Project partners, such facilities may be provided at the disposal of the Consultant.

The consultant will be reporting to IOM and will work in close coordination and collaboration with senior project associate. Approvals will be required for the deliverables from IOM and PMM, upon submission of the deliverables stipulated in section 6. IOM and PMM may have some comments and revision requests on the deliverables. IOM and PMM may provide background materials, for the consultantโ€™s review, reference and use, if deemed necessary during the implementation. All documents and data provided to the consultant are confidential and cannot be used for any other purpose or shared with a third party without any written approval from IOM and PMM.

Tasks to be performed under this contract
Under these consultancy services, the Consultant is expected to perform the following tasks:

Familiarity with the themes of migration, social cohesion,ย xenophobia,ย and social biases in academic and social settings.ย  Professional experience in working with academics and relevant public institutions Experience in designing and conducting field researchย including surveys, FGDs, qualitative and quantitative data analysisย and workshops. Experience in the United Nations System is an asset. Languages ย Fluency in Turkish and English. IOMโ€™s official languages are English, French and Spanish. Proficiency of language(s) required will be specifically evaluated during the selection process, which may include written and/or oral assessments. ย  Travel required

The activity involves travel when necessary. The consultant must have no travel restrictions within Turkiye and be able to ensure flexibility in their schedule accordingly.ย The travel costs, accommodation costs (bed and breakfast) and living costs (terminal expenses, intra- city travel costs, lunch, dinner, etc.) of the missions to other provinces of Tรผrkiye will be arranged and borne by IOM. IOM will arrange economy class round-trip flight tickets through its contracted Travel Agency.

As per UNDSS rules, the consultant is responsible for completing necessary online security training and submitting certificates and travel clearance prior to assignment-related travels.
