The international Organization for Migration is an intergovernmental organization founded in 1951, committed to the principle that migrants and society benefit from orderly migration that respects human dignity. As a leading international organization in the field of migration, IOM works with its partners in the international community to help meet the growing challenges of managing migration flows, foster understanding of migration issues, promote economic and social development through migration, and work towards respect for human dignity and the well-being of migrants.
Since 2016, IOM has been operating in the Comoros, working on voluntary return and reintegration of vulnerable migrants; migration governance; disaster risk management; counter-trafficking; border and immigration management; and diaspora mobilization.

IOM is implementing the European Union funded project โRegional Responses to Climate Displacement in Sub-Saharan Africa โ RE2CLIDโ, whose overall objective is thatย Displacement-Affected Communities (DACs) living in areas at risk of either disaster or other adverse effects of climate change, environmental degradation, and correlated stressors are resilient and self-reliant;ย and is recruiting a Community Engagement Associate for its Country Office in Moroni.
Under the overall supervision of the Head of Office (HoO) in Comoros and direct supervision of the National Project Officer, the Community Engagement Associate will carry out the following duties and responsibilities
Assist in the implementation and monitoring of community engagement and resilience-building project activities.
Retrieve, compile, summarize, analyze, and present information/data on specific project topics.
Monitor budget; verify availability of funds; obtain necessary approval and update budget related information.
Act as focal point for administrative coordination of project implementation, involving extensive liaison with diverse organizational units and external parties to initiate requests, obtain necessary clearances, process and follow-up on administrative actions, etc.
Draft status reports, identifying shortfalls in delivery, bring them to the attention of the supervisor and suggest remedial actions.
Draft correspondence on project issues; prepare and update reports, briefing notes, graphics, statistical tables, presentation and other forms of documentation.
Respond to complex information requests and inquiries; set up and maintain files/records; organize meetings, workshops and training sessions;ย
Participate in meetings and conferences; assist in coordinating implementation activities with local authorities, partners, United Nation agencies, intergovernmental and non-governmental organizations, donors and other stakeholders relevant to the project.ย
Assist in monitoring work of implementing partners and report non-compliances to the supervisor.ย
Provides guidance/training to new/junior staff.ย
Perform other related duties as assigned. Education
School diploma with five years of relevant experience; or,ย
Bachelorโs degree in Political or Social Sciences, International Relations, Development Studies, Migration Studies, Human Rights, Law or related fields from an accredited academic institution with three years of relevant professional experienceย Accredited Universities are those listed in the UNESCO World Higher Education Database.ย Experience
- Experience in liaising with governmental authorities, national/international institutions, United Nations agencies and non-governmental organizations;
Experience in working with migrants, refugees, internally displaced persons, victims of trafficking and other vulnerable groups;
Experience in community engagement and,
Prior work experience with international humanitarian organizations, non-government or government institutions/organization in a multi-cultural setting is an advantageSkills
- In depth knowledge of the broad range of migration related subject areas dealt with by the Organization.
- Good communication, interpersonal and organizational skills.ย
- Ability to draft clearly and concisely reports.ย
- Good knowledge of Word, Excel and Internet.ย Languages
