Summary:
The International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) seeks a Communications Specialist I/II to join the Communications and Public Affairs (CPA) team and play a key role in promoting IFPRI research through various social media platforms. The successful candidate will demonstrate proficiency in digital and social media, excellent verbal and written communications skills, and an ability to translate academic research into compelling written and visual stories/messages. This role requires understanding of social media best practices, community management and social listening, and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
The Communications Specialist will work under the direction of the Manager of Media and Digital Engagement in collaboration with all CPA teams.
This is a full time exempt, one-year, renewable appointment. The position is based at IFPRI headquarters in Washington.

Required qualifications:
At the Communications I level: Bachelorโs degree in journalism, communications, social science (or similar) and two years of relevant professional experience or a Masterโs degree. At the Communications II level: Bachelorโs degree plus five years of relevant professional experience in Communications, International Development, preferably with an international organization; or masterโs degree plus three years of experience in Communications, International Development, preferably with an international organization. Good knowledge of established social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube, etc.) and interest in exploring new and emerging platforms. Experience designing and executing social media campaigns. Excellent writing skills, with an eye for proofreading and grammar. Demonstrated ability to write clean, concise, engaging copy of highest quality on deadline, in formats including press releases, blog posts, stories, and social media posts. A creative, critical, and original thinker able to communicate complex research ideas in a concise and engaging manner. Strong analytical and superior judgment skills. Ability to work independently and in interdisciplinary and multicultural teams.Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in international development. Experience working with scientific or academic content. Knowledge of foreign languages is a plus.Physical Demand & Work Environment:
