About the Green Climate Fund (GCF)
Set up in 2010 by the 194 countries who are Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), GCF takes its responsibility as the worldโ€™s largest dedicated multilateral climate fund to heart. GCF funds transformative climate projects across the developing world, supporting countries in their responses and actions to tackle climate change while fostering sustainable development within their communities.

Internship Assignment

The Intern will provide operational and administrative support to the Department of Communications. S/he will be able to learn and expand her/his experiences by assisting in the Fundโ€™s overall communications functions. The role's primary focus will be to support strengthened engagement and partnership with the mainstream media at the regional and national levels. The Intern will support the development of more thematic feature-style articles that showcase how GCF investments enable effective climate action in developing countries. The role will broadly support media coverage linked to select global/regional events, including GCF board meetings. In addition, s/he will support the development of other communications products and activities and assist with other related tasks as needed.

Under the overall guidance of GCFโ€™s Media Senior Specialist within the Department of Communications, the Intern is expected to:

  • Support the implementation of one regional-level media partnership that showcases the impact of GCF investment in climate action
  • Support the implementation of three national-level media partnerships that showcase the impact of GCF investment in climate action
  • Support the development of written materials (including presentations and briefing notes) on GCF project work on two agreed thematic areas
  • Support media monitoring of GCF work and issues related to the organization
  • Support the preparation of media briefing materials for select missions and events
  • Provide surge support to other areas of work in the Department of Communications when needed

    Requirements and qualifications

    • Enrolled or recently graduated from a Masterโ€™s or PhD programme in climate and environment, finance, international relations, sustainable development, social science, communications or related fields;
    • Knowledge and/or experience of international development and environment-related events or projects
    • Good understanding and/or experience of operations in an international organization is an advantage;
    • Proficiency in using standard software programmes: MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Access;
    • Good writing and presentation skills essential
    • Fluency in English is essential; knowledge of another United Nations language, particularly French, Spanish, and/or Portuguese, is an advantage.

      *The person assessed by the Selection Panel as most suitable for the position will be proposed for appointment. Selection among short-listed candidates will also take into account performance at interview, appropriate testing, and references.
