Organization Profile
Partners In Health (PIH) is a non-profit, global health organization that fights social injustice by bringing the benefits of modern medical science first and foremost to the most vulnerable communities around the world. PIH focuses on those who would not otherwise have access to quality health care. PIH partners with the worldโs leading academic institutions to create rigorous evidence that shapes more sound and all-inclusive global health policies. PIH also supports local governmentsโ efforts to build capacity and strengthen national health systems.
As of today, PIH runs programs in 11 countries (Haiti, Kazakhstan, Lesotho, Liberia, Malawi, Mexico, Navajo Nation, Peru, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, United States), where it provides direct care to millions of patients, through public facilities and community engagement.
Our Work in Sierra Leone:
PIH began supporting the Government of Sierra Leone in response to the Ebola epidemic in October 2014. In the aftermath of the Ebola crisis, PIH recognized the countryโs great need for continued investments to rebuild a resilient health system and committed to long-term health system strengthening in support of the Ministry of Health (MOH). Today, in partnership with the government, PIH supports eleven health facilities across five districts in an effort to build a health system that protects every Sierra Leoneanโs right to health, especially those most vulnerable to sickness and injustice. With a team of over 800 staff members, 94% of which are Sierra Leonean nationals, PIHโs model utilizes a public-private partnership with MOH, leveraging Kono as a model district for the provision of integrated, patient-centered care across all levels of healthcare delivery.
