โ€‹โ€‹โ€‹We are currently seeking a talented and experienced Communications and Publications Team Lead to join our Secretariat team in the heart of Copenhagen. You will be responsible for leading our communications and publications efforts, ensuring that our messaging is clear, consistent, and aligned with our organizational goals. As team lead, you will manage a small team of highly skilled professionals and collaborate closely with other departments and the network to develop and implement effective communication and publication strategies.

In this role, you will influence the operations of an intergovernmental organization and contribute to our aim of providing science for sustainable seas. You will join a diverse and inclusive working environment of approximately 75 Secretariat staff who represent more than 30 different nationalities. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to shape the organization's identity and have a positive impact on the Secretariat and ICES network. You will report directly to the General Secretary, the head of ICES Secretariat.

Responsibilities

Plan, prioritize, and delegate the work of the Communications and Publications Team in coordination with Line Managers and Committee Chairs, and oversee the Team's quality standards. Improve systems, team functioning, and inter-team effectiveness through constant innovation.Coordinate and implement ICES communication and publication strategies, providing strategic input and planning across Secretariat departments, with due regard to human and financial resources, deadlines, and communications and publications deliverables.Lead the staff and resources of the Communications and Publications Team to support ICES leadership and network. Support the recruitment of new Communications and Publications Team members, as needed.Oversee both internal and external implementation of the communication and publication strategy, including ICES communication channels including social media platforms, ICES website and media relations.Develop ICES brand by leading the production of high-quality content that engages our network and builds brand recognition; coordinate informative content from the network and producing press releases, articles, and media opportunities to highlight the work of ICES community.Oversee ICES publications activities. Oversee the communications and publications budgets; produce overviews of estimated spending and follow-up throughout the financial year to ensure costs stay within budgets.Perform other duties as assigned and as deemed necessary the General Secretary to attain overall ICES goals in cooperation with other ICES secretariat departments.

Qualifications and experience

Excellent (native standard) English grammatical, reading, and writing language skills.
Bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, journalism or related field, or a professional certification in communication (Master's degree is preferred). At least two years' previous experience in strategic communications and/or publications, preferably from an intergovernmental organization.A creative individual, with demonstrated experience generating and implementing new and effective communication ideas and solutions. Project management and organizational skills to plan, coordinate and execute multiple communication and publications projects within deadlines and budgets.Experience managing a small team, including with colleagues from diverse national and cultural backgrounds.Digital and technical skills are also necessary to use the various communication tools and software.

Terms of appointment

The appointment will be full-time (38 hours per week), for a four-year contract period starting in June 2024 or as soon as possible, with the possibility of extension.

ICES Secretariat staff enjoy privileges and immunities pursuant to the Host Agreement between the Government of Denmark and ICES. The salaries of ICES staff are exempt from Danish income tax and the salary for this role is at the โ€œP2\" grade, which is similar to the United Nations common salary system.

An โ€œassessment\" is applied to the salary and is comparable to an internal ICES tax. Furthermore, all staff must contribute to โ€œATP\", the Danish labour market supplementary pension fund. Staff are eligible for a salary step increase every year based on a performance review.

Furthermore, a tax-free pension scheme is available, to which both the employee and ICES contribute. ICES Staff Rules set out the conditions and principles of employment and the responsibilities of the staff of the Secretariat.
