Overview:
The Social Marketing and Communication (SMC) department within FHI 360โs U.S. Programs is a national leader in applying a science-based approach to social marketing and communication to address public health and other challenges in the U.S. SMC currently implements a diverse portfolio of social marketing, public relations, communication, and training and technical assistance projects in the U.S. that are funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, National Institutes of Health, private associations, and foundations. In the past decade, our team has worked on issues such as diabetes, emergency and pandemic preparedness, obesity prevention, sexual health, HIV/AIDS, cancer, asthma, immunizations, violence prevention, access to health care, and tobacco control and cessation. Job Summary:
The Communication Specialist I will provide communication and operational support to the National Collaborative on Childhood Obesity Research (NCCOR). NCCOR brings together the nationโs leading research fundersโthe Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), National Institutes of Health (NIH), Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF), and U.S Department of Agriculture (USDA)โto address the problem of childhood obesity in America. In 2012, NCCOR was selected by then HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius for an HHSinnovates Award. NCCOR also received an NIH Directorโs Award in 2011. The Communication Specialist I will implement NCCORโs day-to-day communication strategy, which will include developing press releases, newsletters, social media content, and using Google Analytics and Google Ads to enhance promotional efforts. They will also be responsible for leading NCCORโs Connect & Explore webinar series and supporting meeting planning and coordinating.
Major Responsibilities
Research, write, and edit a broad range of communication materials for NCCOR projects.
Write and publish all social media content for NCCOR across platforms. Identify opportunities to expand NCCORโs social media presence to new platforms and promotional opportunities.
Utilize Google Analytics and analytics from social media sites to track website metrics and provide recommendations to the team.
Implement Google Ads campaigns to promote NCCOR resources and events.
Lead the planning and execution of NCCORโs Connect & Explore webinar series, including liaising with speakers, managing the development of workshop slides, leading promotional efforts, and managing the Zoom webinar platform.
Support the coordination of in-person and virtual workshops and meetings, including developing agendas, inviting guest speakers, creating slides, etc.
Ensure quality control of projects.
May be assigned to provide support for other health communication across the department.
Minimum Requirements
Bachelorโs Degree in English, Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or Public Health
Typically requires 3+ years of writing, editing, and publications experience.
Experience writing for government audiences, research audiences and practitioner audiences.
Experience translating research into communication products for lay audiences.
Experience developing social media for professional and government audiences.
Demonstrated experience using the following platforms: Google Ads, Google Analytics, Zoom Meetings, Mailchimp. Experience using WordPress is a plus.
Graphic design and/or web design & development experience a plus.
Superior organizational skills and acute attention to detail.
Ability to communicate written and orally in a succinct, clear, persuasive manner.
Demonstrated ability to work independently and as a team member, prioritize, and competently manage a variety of activities with multiple deadlines.
Strong client relations skills leading to high client satisfaction.
Motivation and willingness to take initiative and full responsibility for various activities.
Must be able to read, write and speak fluent English.
Ability to travel to participate in occasional in-person meetings and conference events.
The expected hiring salary range for this role is listed below. FHI 360 pay ranges represent national averages that vary by geographic location. When determining an offer amount, FHI 360 factors in multiple considerations, including but not limited to: relevant years of experience and education possessed by the applicant, internal equity, business sector, and budget.
Base salary is only one component of our offer. FHI 360 contributes 12% of monthly base pay to a money purchase pension plan account. Additionally, all US based staff working full-time, which is calculated at 40 hours/week, receive 18 days of paid vacation per year, 12 sick days per year, and 11 holidays per year. Paid time off is reduced pro rata for employees working less than a full-time schedule.
Hiring Salary Range: $65,000 - $77,000
