Mission and objectivesWho we are UNDP is the UN's global development network, advocating for change and connecting countries to knowledge, experience and resources to help empower people and build resilient nations. UNDP has been working in Liberia since 1977 in peace and in crisis times. UNDP is committed to helping Liberia achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGS) as well as the countryโs national development priorities as set out in its newest Pro-Poor Development Agenda. UNDP provides technical assistance within the framework of the UN Development Assistance Framework (UNDAF) which is fully aligned with Liberiaโs National development Agenda. What we do UNDP supports Liberia's national development agenda and works closely with national institutions and local communities to promote, advocate and contribute to good governance, peace and security. Our work focuses on engendering national initiatives and strategies that help facilitate long-term development transformation in the lives of the people of Liberia. We offer global perspectives, complementary support and ideas on strategic development projects and capacity building in continued efforts to promote and protect human rights and improve environmental management. The end result of this transformation would be a country that is characterized by peaceful and inclusive politics and diversified economy, stable institutions, enforces the laws fairly, land tenure problems have been resolved, natural resources are efficiently managed and health and education standards have reached those of other middle income countries.
ContextThe United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Liberia has been actively involved in sup-porting the country's development goals since 1977. Their efforts are aligned with Liberia's nation-al development priorities, particularly the ARREST Agenda for Inclusive Development (AAID) and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). UNDP Liberia focuses on several key areas: 1. Inclusive Governance: Promoting democratic governance and ensuring that all citizens have a voice in decision-making processes. 2. Sustaining Peace: Supporting peacebuilding initiatives and strengthening the rule of law to maintain stability. 3. Inclusive Growth: Encouraging economic development that benefits all segments of society, particularly the most vulnerable These efforts are designed to address persistent issues such as poverty, climate vulnerability, and social inequality, with a strong emphasis on gender equality and human rights.
Task DescriptionUnder the Resident Representative or his/her designated representative(s), working in close collaboration with the Communications Analyst and the programme team, the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks: Communication Support โข Support the communication team in research, drafting, editing, designing, producing, identifying, and disseminating high-quality communication documents/materials in English. e.g. articles, press releases, human interest stories, fact sheets, publications, reports, features, blogs, etc.) for use by traditional and modern media, advocacy, social mobilization, resource mobilization/fundraising. โข Support the unitโs quality assurance, consistency, accuracy, and ethics of all communication tools and materials (press releases, videos, social media posts, Human Interest Stories, Blog articles, Reports, etc. โข Support day-to-day communication activities, including but not limited to, contributing to outreach through organizing events/activities, preparing background communication and advocacy materials for briefings and visits of media, goodwill ambassadors, donors, national committee representatives, and other special interest groups as required. โข Support the unit in planning and execution of strategic goals & events that generate public support, monitoring of public perception of UNDP in Liberia, evaluating the effectiveness of advocacy and communication systems, and recommend appropriate actions where needed to maintain a positive image for the organization. โข Support close collaboration/partnership with the media to organize and facilitate field visits to project sites, photo, video, and TV coverage to generate and maintain public interest in the work of UNDP and communicate the story suited to the relevant target audience. Online strategy support: โข Support UNDPโs online/ digital communication and web content development strategy to generate national and international support. (e.g., the regular update of the UNDP Country Office Website, regular update of social media channels, leading ef-forts to mobilize followers, improving UNDP Liberiaโs presence on social media plat-forms, assisting in maintaining the Country officeโs web photo database, etc. โข Support the development and reinforcement of already existing web tools to enhance the visibility of UNDP and its partners, ensure systematic information updates, and propose content for social media platforms (photos, videos, posts, articles, etc.) Advocacy support: โข Provide internal office support to programme staff on the production of quality advocacy, information, and communication materials to strengthen the visibility of pro-jects. (E.g., one-pagers, policy briefs, summaries, branding, etc. โข Support global/national UNDP/UN /UNCG advocacy activities. E.g., planning UN Day events, High-level visits, supporting the preparation and dissemination of information materials, and necessary logistic arrangements for strategic activities. โข Take responsibility where required to adapt and disseminate advocacy materials from the Country Office, NY HQ, Geneva HQ, and Regional Office to target audiences, as necessary; identify the need for additional materials/activities, and publications to advocate and promote organizational goals within the country. โข Perform other related work as required.

Living conditions and remarksMonrovia, the capital of Liberia, faces significant challenges such as high poverty levels, lack of access to basic necessities, under-resourced healthcare, and prevalence of diseases like malaria. Despite these issues, efforts are being made to improve infrastructure and services. Monrovia is known for its vibrant culture, rich history, beautiful beaches, and lively markets, but safety concerns, especially outside the capital, are prevalent.
