Work LocationKoror, Palau Expected duration1July-31August2025 Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe UN Office of the Resident Coordinator in Micronesia (MCO Micronesia) coordinates the United Nationsโ operational activities for development in Palau, Federated States of Micronesia, Kiribati, Marshall Islands and Nauru. MCO Micronesia supports the realization of regional priorities as defined in the UN Pacific Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework 2023-2027 (CF) which outlines the UNโs programme in the region and is implemented at the country level through the Country Implementation Plans (CIPs). MCO Micronesia is based in Pohnpei, FSM and comprises a team of national and international staff. MCO Micronesia is represented in Koror, Tarawa, Majuro and Yaren by UN Country Coordination Officers. Supporting the implementation of the CF, the MCO fulfils ten core coordination functions, namely strategic analysis and planning; oversight of the UN country programming cycle; representation of and support of UN Secretariat and UN agencies (incl. non-resident agencies); support to national coordination systems and processes; development and management of shared operational support services; crisis management preparedness and response; external communication and advocacy; human rights and development; joint resource mobilization and fund management; and general UNCT oversight and coordination. Each area plays an important role in supporting the achievement of the 2030 Agenda and the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The internship is UNPAID and full time. The minimum duration of an internship is two months and can be extended up to a total period of six months. Interns work five days per week (must be more than 34 hours per week) under the supervision of a staff member in the division or office which they are assigned. Under the guidance & supervision of the Country Coordination Officer, and in close collaboration with the Head of the UNRCO and RCO team, the intern will assist in the following tasks: 1. Assist in the preparation of UN- supported thematic events and/or meetings (with civil society organizations, government, donors and development partners, etc.). 2. Support in the documentation and reporting of UN activities outlined in the CIP. 3. Research and drafts in-country initiatives for RCO communications, especially amongst vulnerable groups โ women, youth and PwDs. 4. Supports the creation and maintenance of a photo bank of UN interventions โ photos of people, particularly vulnerable groups. 5. Complete end-of-internship report summarizing Qualifications/special skillsStrong writing, research, and communication skills. Experience in communications and social media outreach. Experience in online content development is desirable. Familiarity with social media platforms and graphic design and photo editing software applications. Self-starter; organized; able to multitask, balance multiple responsibilities, and work to deadline. Must be able to work in a multicultural environment and be aware of political sensitivities. Applicants must meet one of the following requirements. (a) Be enrolled in, or have completed a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher) in communications, international relations, social sciences, or a related field. (b) Be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum third year of bachelor's degree or higher) in communications, international relations, social sciences, or a related field. LanguagesProficiency in English; knowledge of an additional UN language is an advantage. Additional InformationUltimate result of service 1.
