Mission and objectivesAs the United Nations lead agency on international development, UNDP works in 170 countries and territories to eradicate poverty and reduce inequality. UNDP help countries to develop policies, leadership skills, partnering abilities, institutional capabilities, and to build resilience to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals. Our work is concentrated in three focus areas: sustainable development, democratic governance and peace building, and climate and disaster resilience. UNDPโs mandate is to end poverty, build democratic governance, rule of law, and inclusive institutions. UNDP has been active in Georgia since 1993, with a goal to accelerate the transition to sustainable development, ensuring that the most vulnerable and excluded are not left behind. The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) established its presence in Georgia in 1993. For nearly 30 years on the ground, UNDP focuses on promoting national development jointly with the Georgian Government. With an annual programmatic budget of about USD 30 million, UNDP works closely with the Government of Georgia to boost reforms, develop new strategies, promote inclusive economic development, and assist in achieving national priorities. UNDP also works with civil society, including non-governmental organizations, academia and media, and with private sector to promote public-private partnerships. ContextUNDP Georgiaโs Environment and Energy Portfolio is diverse and focuses on biodiversity conservation, protection of Ozone layer, air quality, climate policies, climate adaptation and mitigation actions, energy efficiency, disaster risk reduction and early warning systems. However, Specialist UNV will assist with portfolioโs climate-related works and assist with the roll out and implementation of Climate Promise initiative. UNDP also contributes to establishing the necessary enabling conditions to pursue the required transformational changes in line with the EU Green Deal and to advancing the overall green transformation of Georgia. The UN Volunteer Climate Specialist will work under supervision of the Team Leader, Energy & Environment Portfolio and in close collaboration with the relevant staff of the UNDP Country Office (CO) in Georgia and EE portfolio. At the same time, she/he will assist UNDP CO in further positioning UNDP in the green development and energy/climate change areas, taking into consideration Georgiaโs international obligations. The assignment may entail some project site visits in Tbilisi or its vicinity, but this will not be regular.
Task DescriptionUnder the direct supervision of Team Leader, Energy and Environment (EE) Portfolio, the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks: 1. Support EE Portfolio with the Climate Promise (CP) 2025 roll out, including work with the UN Country Team to ensure all UN coordinated approach to CP roll out; 2. Contribute to the planning and assist with the implementation of awareness raising and media outreach campaigns and events related to NDC and CP Work Plan implementation; 3. Liaison with the UNDPโs communications team on media coverage and outreach events, including drafting of relevant briefing notes, summaries, or inputs for press releases; 4. Support UNDPโs engagement in UN interagency coordination in United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF) Results Group 5 by drafting briefing notes, preparing presentations, providing inputs for work plan and annual report; 5. Support UNDP Country Office (CO) in providing input to the elaboration of next cycle of UNSDCF and UNDP Country Program Document; 6. Assist Team Leader with the EE portfoliosโ climate-related works and support expansion of COs green transition agenda, including supporting mapping of all donor sup-ported green transition initiatives, elaboration of new project initiatives and resource mobilization; 7. Support in facilitating cross-portfolio cooperation within the CO; 8. Represent EE portfolio in different consultation platforms, as needed; 9. Assist with preparation of briefing notes, packages, presentations and mission pro-grammes, pertinent to UNDP CO EE portfolio.

Living conditions and remarksThe UN Volunteer will be based in Tbilisi with possible travel from time to time to project areas. Tbilisi has a population of around 1.5 million (total population in Georgia being around 4.5 million). The official language is Georgian, although there are some other languages spoken by various ethnic groups. English is spoken by many in the Tbilisi-area, and most of relevant contacts in government positions and civil society. However, Russian is also useful, especially with the older generation, population outside the capital and in normal interaction with taxi drivers, shopkeepers etc. Houses or apartments are available for rent. Living conditions are considered quite good and improving rapidly. There are good hotels and restaurants which offer various types of food and large international supermarket chains which offer most things needed by internationals living in Tbilisi. Summary of UNV Entitlements (International Specialist) โข Current Monthly Living Allowance (MLA) is USD 2476 โข Private insurance: Health, dental, life and dismemberment coverage by CIGNA โข Entry allowance: USD 4000 โข Exit allowance: USD 225 per month and upon the satisfactory completion of assignment โข Family allowance: USD 250 per month for one eligible dependent, USD 450 per month for two or more eligible dependents, if applicable โข Annual leave: 2.5 days accrued per calendar month. โข Uncertified sick leave: 7 days for 12 months โข Free access to different learning platforms and UN & UNV network The purpose of the allowances and entitlements paid to UN Volunteers is to enable UN Volunteers to sustain a secure standard of living at the duty stations in line with United Nations standards without incurring personal costs. The allowances are in no way to be understood as compensation, reward, or salary in exchange for the UN Volunteerโs service. Contingent on specific eligibility criteria, location of the volunteer assignment and contractual type and category, the payment of allowances will begin from the date of Commencement of Service.
