Organizational Setting

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) leads international efforts to defeat hunger and improve nutrition and food security. FAO is an accredited implementing agency of the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and the Least Developed Countries Fund (LDCF). Through these partnerships, FAO supports countries in addressing global environmental challenges, including biodiversity conservation, climate change mitigation and adaptation, land degradation, and sustainable forest and water management. In this context, FAO is implementing a portfolio of GEF and LDCF funded projects that aim to enhance environmental sustainability and climate resilience in agriculture, forestry, and natural resource management.

These projects are executed in close collaboration with national governments and stakeholders and are aligned with national development priorities and international environmental commitments. In this context, FAO is supporting Tanzania to implement GEF and LDCF funded projects that aim to enhance environmental sustainability and climate resilience in agriculture, forestry, and natural resource management.

Accordingly, FAO endeavours to engage a Climate and Natural Resources M&E Specialist with diverse knowledge on Natural resources, Environment and Climate Change.

Reporting Lines

The Climate and Natural Resources M&E Specialist will work under the overall guidance of the FAO Representative in Tanzania, and that of the direct technical supervision of the Assistant FAO Representative (Programme), and guidance from other technical officers at the FAO Headquarter, Regional and Sub regional offices, in close collaboration with other relevant officers at the country office.

Technical Focus

The Climate and Natural Resources M&E Specialist will provide technical support on respective projects in area of Natural Resource Management, Environment, Climate Change, and programme/project management.

Tasks and responsibilities

โ€ข ย ย ย ย Development and application of M&E frameworks aligned with FAO and GEF/LDCF standards.
โ€ข ย ย ย ย Quantitative and qualitative data collection and analysis for environmental, agricultural, and climate resilience indicators.
โ€ข ย ย ย ย Integration of gender, youth, and social inclusion metrics into M&E systems.
โ€ข ย ย ย ย Support to baseline studies, mid-term reviews, and terminal evaluations.
โ€ข ย ย ย ย Contribution to knowledge management, reporting, and communication of results. Support the development of climate risk assessments and vulnerability analyses and mitigation measures.
โ€ข ย ย ย ย Provide support to collect, research, analyses and synthesize information for preparation of projects on Environment and Climate Change.
โ€ข ย ย ย ย Coordinate monitoring, assessments and evaluation activities of the project.
โ€ข ย ย ย ย Assist the engagement with stakeholders at National Regional and District level and these include Government Ministries/institution, CSOs NGOs and private entities to obtain their inputs to inform design and delivery of projects.
โ€ข ย ย ย ย Provide support to the Coordination Unit for Forestry & Natural Resources (CUFONA) coordinated between SFS and FRURT Technical Units;
โ€ข ย ย ย ย Prepare Periodic M&E reports (including monthly, quarterly, annual)
โ€ข ย ย ย ย Support visibility of FRURT programmes in the areas of Environment and Climate change;
โ€ข ย ย ย ย Support engagement and communicate regularly with stakeholders at national, regional, and district levels, and these include government ministries/institutions, CSOs, NGOs and private entities, to obtain their inputs to inform design and delivery of projects;ย 
โ€ข ย ย ย ย Prepare regular progress reports, technical documents, and knowledge products;
โ€ข ย ย ย ย Perform any other duties as specified by the supervisor, in support and furtherance of the FAO mission, goals and strategic framework.

Minimum Requirements

โ€ข ย ย ย ย Advanced University degree in Environment, climate change, Monitoring and Evaluation, community development, natural resources management (NRM), forestry and/or related fields.
โ€ข ย ย ย ย 5 years โ€˜experience working with international/regional organizations, government and national institutions dealing with environment/climate change, forestry, NRM, land management.
โ€ข ย ย ย ย Working knowledge of English.
โ€ข ย ย ย ย Nationality of Tanzania.
