Duties and ResponsibilitiesGuided by General Assembly resolution 62/141, in which the Assembly established the mandate, the Special Representative is a global, independent advocate for the prevention and elimination of all forms of violence against children. Following the request made by the Board of the extinct Global Partnership on Ending Violence Against Children in 2023, the Special Representative was entrusted to revamp, revitalize and launch a renewed Global Pathfinding Global Alliance on Ending Violence Against Children (a former component of the) in line with her mandate to act as a catalyst to stimulate the engagement of Member States and as a bridge-builder to mobilize action to achieve SDG commitments to tackle violence and its drivers. The Pathfinding Global Alliance under the political leadership of the Special Representative and the auspices of her Office was launched on 8 November 2024 at the First Ministerial Conference on Ending Violence Against Children in Bogota. The Global Alliance has now been joined by 48 Member States and continues rapidly growing. One of the key components of the Alliance facilitated by the Office is the online platform facilitating peer to peer support an engagement among States and partners โ a Market Place for Knowledge Sharing. The consultant will: โข Cooperate with key UN partners, UNICEF, WHO, and other partners, and expand collaboration with national organizations and institutions in the development and implementation of initiatives to address violence against children in the MENA region. This includes support to the development of case studies, advocacy tools, and policy reforms for childrenโs protection from violence. โข Support in collecting data and information to prepare and update country profiles, talking points, and reports on the issue of child protection from violence in the MENA region. โข Support planning, organizing, and following up on regional high-level meetings in the Arab region as well as video conferences. โข Support coordination of OSRSG-VAC activities with partners in the MENA region. โข Provide translation and interpreting services in Arabic for social media content, press releases, conferences, and website materials for communication and advocacy purposes. Qualifications/special skillsEducation: Advanced university degree (masterโs degree or equivalent) in law, political science, international relations, urban studies, social sciences or related field. A first-level university degree in combination with qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. Working Experience: A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in human rights, political affairs, international relations, law or related area. Experience in the field of child rights and child protection is required. Knowledge of the Arabic region. Knowledge of the mandate and UN system. LanguagesEnglish and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in Arabic and excellent drafting skills are required.
