Project Context and Scope
ย Based on the language barrier Ukrainian refugees face in Hungary, IOM Hungary created a free of charge Interpretation Service in November 2022. Since then, IOM Hungary operates a booking page where people fleeing Ukraine to Hungary may request interpretation supportย when attending Hungarian authorities (police, civil protection, health authorities, immigration) or other entities, including schools, banks and hospitals primarily in Budapest.

ย IOM Hungary's Direct Assistance Unit Tasks to be performed under this contract
1. Provide general support to the people affected by the Ukrainian crisis when attending Hungarian authorities (police, civil protection, health authorities, immigration) or other entities, including schools, banks and hospitals primarily in Budapest. 2. Interpret from Hungarian into Ukrainian and vice versa on a wide variety of daily topics and issues (medical, education, legal etc). 3. Assist in the interpretation activity in an objective and impartial way. 4. Maintain the confidentiality and integrity of all related information by implementing controlย procedures in line with IOM standards of conduct and data protection rules. 5. Perform any other duties as may be assigned related to the job. ย Performance indicators for the evaluation of results
1.Keep a track of all interpretations delivered with the following data included: Date; Session start; Session end; Gender; Age cohort; Nationality; no. of people assisted; Language FROM/TO; Subject; Length of time since arrival; Region of origin.
2.Prepare periodical reports and updates on interpretation services, trends and best practices.

Education
- High school Degree/Certificate with minimum 3 years or relevant work experience desirably interpretation/cultural mediation in the framework of migrantsโ assistance.; or,ย
- Bachelorโs degree in Social Sciences, Humanities, Linguistics , Literature, or a related field from an accredited academic institution with 1 year of relevant work experience. Experience
- Experience in interpretation is required;
- Experience in the framework of migrantsโ assistance is desirable;ย
- Prior work experience with international humanitarian organizations, non-government or government institutions/organization in a multi-cultural setting is an advantage. Skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to effectively communicate with people from varied cultures and background;
- Strong administrative and organizational skills;
- Efficiency, flexibility, high level of professionalism and ability to work under pressure. Languages
- Fluency in English, Hungarian and Ukrainian is required
- Fluency in Russian is an advantage. IOMโs official languages are English, French and Spanish. Proficiency of language(s) required will be specifically evaluated during the selection process, which may include written and/or oral assessments. ย Travel required
