Position Title: Business Development Associate
Reports to: Senior Director, Public Sector Partnerships
Location: Boston, MA
General Responsibilities
The Business Development Associate serves as an integral part of the Public Sector Partnerships (PSP) team within the Global Policy & Partnerships Department (GPP) at Partners In Health. The PSP team manages relationships with bilateral and multilateral government funding institutions and associated implementing partners in order to mobilize resources to support the organizationโs health programming ambitions. The position is responsible for managing prospect research and qualification processes as well as providing support to team engagement and stewardship activities for government funding partners. The position will also serve as primary focal point for a small portfolio of care delivery country sites and manage coordination to respond to such needs and interests both internally and externally. The Associate will also provide critical cross-team coordination support working closely with the team Senior Director and Associate Director, Public Sector Partnerships as well as teams across GPP and PIHโs External Engagement Cluster (EEC).
Specific Responsibilities
Research and prospecting (40%)
- Lead daily prospecting efforts identifying potential released opportunities, interpreting information, summarizing opportunities, and making recommendations.
- Lead improvements to team prospecting systems and ways of working, facilitate meetings, and engage team members across GPP in systems and policies.
- Support the assessment of opportunities with team leadership and complete restricted funding forum (RFF) processes in collaboration with department and site leads.
- Gather, compile, and analyze business information from many sources, connect this information to pre-released and released opportunities, and make recommendations.
- Monitor institutional donor priorities and general funding trends.
External engagement and stewardship (40%)
- Lead qualification of identified prospects including analysis for potential alignment with PIH mission through online research in relation to partner geographic and technical priorities.
- Prepare prospect analysis reports and briefing materials to support relationship manager cultivation strategies as well as donor meetings and visits. Prepare other background materials and presentations as needed.
- Support team definition, implementation, and tracking of partner cultivation and engagement strategies and actions through.
- Support proactive, responsive stewardship practices and cultivation outreach including annual report mailing and event invitations in concert with EEC teams.
- Support communication projects for improved visibility of PIHโs scope of public sector partnerships, including internal intranet and external website enhancements.
- Support the regular updating and maintainence of prospect information within our Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system.
Business Development Support (20%):
- Lead and support requests for funding, such as letters of inquiry, concept papers, proposals, and grant applications in close coordination with team business development officers and site partnership teams. Coordinate with clinical and finance teams to develop technical and financial proposal components.
- Support planning, design, and proofreading of proposals and reports. Format and compile documents to ensure polished presentation and consistency with donor and partner guidelines.
- Serve as focal point for a few care delivery country sites that have low level government funding to maintain support for fundraising objectives and solicitation strategies.
- Serve as relationship manager for a set of public sector donors and lead on proposals per their annual funding rounds.
- Coordinate scheduling, agendas, and logistics for internal and external meetings and conference calls.
- Perform other related tasks and special projects as assigned to support the overall functioning of the PSP team and GPP department.
Qualifications
- Bachelorโs degree required, at least two yearsโ experience required
- Demonstrated competence to assess priorities and manage a variety of activities in a time-sensitive environment and to meet deadlines, with strong attention to detail and quality.
- Ability to work independently to accomplish priorities.
- Ability to collaboratively guide the activities of a team toward the achievement of overall goals.
- Demonstrated maturity, judgment, and ability to handle confidential information with discretion and professionalism.
- Ability to travel internationally up to 10% of time.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to multi-task and juggle competing priorities. Flexibility and commitment to excellence.
- Excellent interpersonal skills required. Ability to interact professionally with culturally diverse staff and donors.
- Writing and proofreading skills. Experience with research a plus.
- Strong computer skills. Excellent skills in the functional use of Raiserโs Edge, Excel, PowerPoint, and Microsoft Word.
- Interest in global health policy and fundraising preferred.
- Spanish, French, or Russian language experience a plus.
