Our Work In Sierra Leone:
Partners In Health (PIH) began supporting the government of Sierra Leone in response to the Ebola epidemic in October 2014. Recognizing the large need for continued investments in the health system after Ebola, PIH is committed to long-term health system strengthening in support of the Ministry of Health and Sanitation (MOHS), guided by the same principles as our emergency response and our work around the world: public sector accompaniment, integrated and comprehensive services, social justice, nimbleness and flexibility, partnership, community ownership, and evidence-based interventions. In the aftermath of the epidemic, PIH is committed to supporting the delivery of comprehensive health services in Sierra Leone, from the community level to the health center and to referral hospitals.
Position Overview
We are looking for a dynamic biomedical technician to join our biomedical department. In this role, the biomedical technician will be in charge of overseeing the care and use of all biomedical equipment, performing machinery repairs, and training staff on the correct use of equipmentโs/he will be answerable to the Biomedical Engineer and act in his capacity when he is not around and sending monthly reports and trimestral using development tools and forms to the Biomedical Engineer.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Performing routine maintenance checks on biomedical equipment through testing, calibrating, and troubleshooting.
- Installing new biomedical equipment and adjusting the device according to medical specifications.
- Training staff members to operate and care for equipment with physical demonstrations and educational presentations.
- Updating the inventory, placing orders, and verifying deliveries.
- Repairing faulty machinery on a routine basis and tending to emergency repairs as needed.
- Keeping a digital record of equipment repairs, faulty components, and recalibrated devices.
- Ensuring that all equipment meets PIH standards of safety and quality and complies with relevant laws.
- Installing and testing medical equipment.
- Maintaining and repairing medical equipment.
- Conducting safety checks on equipment.
- Training and advising users on safe procedures.
- Working with other staff in determining equipment needs.
- Performing preventive maintenance on biomedical equipment.
- Traveling across PIH sites (Health Centres/PHUs/CHCs) as required.
- Communicating regularly with superior technicians within PIH/MoHS.
- Supporting the commissioning of new medical equipment and systems.
- Providing technical input during procurement processes to ensure equipment specifications meet clinical and operational needs.
- Ability to assist plant operators in the daily operation and monitoring of medical gas systems,(Oxygen Plants) while providing basic guidance and on-the-job training in routine maintenance tasks

Education and Work Experience Requirements
- University Degree in Biomedical Technology or a related field, OR
- A Technicians diploma in Electronic and Electrical Engineering/Technology (EEET).
- Appropriate Certification in the repair of specialized equipment and systems from the relevant manufacturer.
- Proficient in the use of computers, with a working knowledge of the Microsoft office suite.
- Interpreting schematic diagrams to perform effective repair and maintenance on basic biomedical equipment
- A minimum of two yearsโ experience as a biomedical technician.
- Exceptional knowledge of the structure and uses of biomedical equipment.
- Solid technical skills and the ability to repair machinery with meticulous attention to detail.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to present complex information in layman's terms.
- Ability to work well under pressure and thrive in a fast-paced medical environment.
- Proficient dexterity and hand-eye coordination, as well as physical stamina to lift heavy equipment.
