Purpose of Job
The Associate, SBI sits within Climate Strategy and Delivery and plays an important role in the implementation of the strategy of the EBRD in the area of sustainable business and infrastructure. The Associate will lead and oversee the execution of all related deliverables and drive the development of green elements of investments that deliver the EBRDโs Green Economy Transition agenda and comply with the goals of Paris Agreement. They conduct independent research and lead ongoing initiatives of the team in relation to project finance, technical assistance, policy dialogue and capacity building activities.
Accountabilities & Responsibilities
The Associate may operate across multiple areas, depending on business needs, and will need to have a strong background in infrastructure projects. They will:
โข Provide technical and analytical leadership to support the project cycle in the Bank and guide project teams in Sustainable Infrastructure Group with the review and assessment of EBRD projects:
- Assess projects under EBRDโs Green Economy Transition approach;
- Determine alignment with the goals of the Paris Agreement;
- Evaluate climate-related financial risk associated with clientsโ activities.
โข Lead the development and application of methodologies and approaches to assess climate adaptation investments, climate risk assessment and deliver associated capacity building;
โข Engage with public and private sector clients on project design and policy initiatives, providing advice and guidance.
โข Keep abreast of developments in the specific sustainable infrastructure related areas, including with other IFIs, and provide comprehensive in-depth analysis, research and advice on these areas to the CSD and other Banking teams.
โข Develop and present internal briefings and materials for senior management, showcasing the team's work internally and externallKnowledge, Skills, Experience & Qualifications
โข Relevant degree in engineering (civil, mechanical, infrastructure, or equivalent), environmental science, or related discipline.
โข Extensive experience, preferably with exposure to sustainable infrastructure in an emerging/developing market context.
โข In-depth understanding of the approaches, methodologies, and the implications of climate change in terms of economic and social impacts.
โข Proven ability to consolidate complex analytical information into briefing materials for a non-technical audience and decision-makers.
โข Strong understanding of policy analysis and policy formulation in the areas of climate change, climate resilience, energy, and infrastructure development.
โข Advanced knowledge of business and finance principles.
โข Experience in emerging markets and developing countries would be advantageous
โข Excellent written/oral communication skills in English. Knowledge of another language of the Bankโs countries of operations (e.g. Arabic, French, Serbian, or Turkish) would be an advantage.
โข Proven ability to operate consistently within business guidelines and ethics and work sensitively in multicultural environments, building effective working relations with clients and colleagues, managing multiple tasks to meet varying deadlines.
โข Strong influencing, negotiation, and relationship-building skills, with both internal and external partners.
โข Result-oriented, self-motivated, ability to work to and meet tight deadlines and to plan and organize work unsupervised in a logical and efficient manner.
โข Familiarity with the role and requirements of EBRD and/or other international financing institutions and/or development agencies.
โข Advanced relationship management skills: experience in engaging with diverse stakeholders for project preparation or implementation tasks, consulting and advisory, and/or policy development.
