Position Summary
The Associate Director, Corporate Accounting reports to the Director, Accounting and provides leadership and direction for the corporate accounting function. This role manages the General Ledger, Accounts Payable, Labor, and Audit teams through their managers, ensuring high-quality outputs, and continuous improvement. The Associate Director is responsible for corporate accounting processes, systems, reporting, audit management, and compliance with US GAAP and applicable US government regulations.
Responsibilities:
Leadership & Management
Accountable for the performance and outputs of the General Ledger Manager, Accounts Payable Manager, and Labor Manager.
Manages and mentors departmental managers, ensuring clear goals, accountability, and professional development.
Provides training, technical leadership, and guidance to departmental staff.
Supports the Director, Accounting in developing and maintaining accounting policy and procedures.
Financial Close & Reconciliation
Responsible for overseeing month-end close processes for corporate accounting departments and inter-company systems.
Reviews trial balances and ensures accurate and timely reconciliation of all corporate balance sheet accounts and accounting sub-systems.
Works closely with the Associate Director, Field Accounting to ensure accurate integration of all non-US finance data into corporate accounting systems.
Accounting Systems & Processes
Manages the development, implementation, and maintenance of corporate accounting functions within the organizationโs accounting software.
Oversees testing of new functionality and contributes to the design and implementation of corporate accounting software enhancements; ensures effective integration with other systems.
Ensures the integrity of corporate accounting data supports financial reporting and analysis objectives.
Responsible for accounting system configuration to support indirect cost rate structures, cost pools, service centers, allocations, clearing accounts, and inter-company accounts.
Reporting & Analysis
Responsible for producing ad hoc financial reports and analysis, and corporate accounting key performance indicators (KPIs) as applicable.
Audit Coordination
Manages the organizationโs annual Uniform Guidance audit and Financial Statement audit in partnership with the Director, Accounting.
Coordinates the provision of all required corporate accounting information to external auditors.
Tax Compliance
Responsible for preparing the organizationโs IRS Form 990, 990-T, and annual Unrelated Business Income Tax filings, for Director or CFO review and signature.
Ensures that all other applicable tax topics are appropriately addressed and coordinated with the Director, Accounting.
Compliance & Standards
Supports the Director, Accounting in preparing annual audited financial statements, including consolidated financials.
Assists with preparation of incurred cost submissions and Cost Accounting Standards (CAS) Disclosure Statement updates to the cognizant US government agency.
Acts as a subject matter expert on US GAAP, FASB standards, and US government CAS, FAR, and 2 CFR 200 regulations; recommends policy and process changes to maintain compliance.
Acts as a subject matter resource for accounting system, policy, and process inquiries, including satisfying due diligence requests from donors and external parties.
Systems & Process Improvement
Provides leadership on corporate finance projects, systems initiatives, and process enhancements to ensure best use of resources and continuous improvement.
Qualifications:
Bachelorโs degree in finance, accounting, or business administration required.
CPA qualification strongly preferred.
Minimum of 7 years of relevant work experience, including 5+ years managing a team of finance professionals at a regional or corporate headquarters level in a medium or large organization.
Experience working for an international non-governmental organization or US government contractor preferred.
Knowledge of US government CAS, FAR, and 2 CFR 200 cost principles preferred.
High degree of technical accounting competency with strong project accounting, fund accounting, and inter-company accounting knowledge.
Significant experience with ERP or complex accounting systems required; knowledge of Deltek CostPoint desirable.
Experience leading or participating significantly in ERP system design and implementation highly regarded.
Strong system and data analytical skills; proven ability to solve complex problems individually and through team collaboration.
Strong understanding of cost pools and allocations preferred.
Advanced MS Excel skills required; proficiency in other MS Office applications highly regarded.
Proven ability to provide both operational and strategic leadership.
Excellent organizational, supervisory, and managerial skills; experience managing remote staff desirable.
Articulate and professional, with strong communication and negotiation skills.
Demonstrated ability to multi-task and meet deadlines in a timely manner.
The expected US Based hiring salary range for this role is listed below. Candidates FHI 360 pay ranges represent national averages that vary by geographic location. When determining an offer amount, FHI 360 factors in multiple considerations, including but not limited to: relevant years of experience and education possessed by the applicant, internal equity, business sector, and budget.
Base salary is only one component of our offer. FHI 360 contributes 7% of monthly base pay to a money purchase pension plan account. Additionally, all US based staff working full-time, which is calculated at 40 hours/week, receive 18 days of paid vacation per year, 12 sick days per year, and 11 holidays per year. Paid time off is reduced pro rata for employees working less than a full-time schedule.
US Based Hiring Salary Range: $128,000 - $140,000 annual
