Org. Setting and ReportingThe United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) is mandated by the UN General Assembly to promote socially and environmentally sustainable towns and cities. UN-Habitat is the focal point for all urbanization and human settlement matters within the UN system. This position is in the Partnerships and Local Governments Unit of the External Relations, Strategy, Knowledge and Innovation (ERSKI) Division of UN-Habitat. ERSKID promotes strategic alliances to support achievement of the goals of adequate shelter for all, and sustainable urbanization and human settlements development. The division also assists to advance UN-Habitatโ€™s image and relationships with its partners and the public at large, and to build and strengthen partnerships, facilitate policy impact and developmental change, and increase delivery of programmes. The incumbent will report to the Chief of Partnerships and Local Governments Unit. Within delegated authority, the Associate Development Coordination Officer, Partnerships will be responsible of the following duties: ResponsibilitiesDescription of Functions: 1. Provides substantive support for strategic planning for UN-Habitat partnerships โ€ข Provides substantive support, as assigned, for the development and implementation of the UN Partnership Strategy in Kenya; โ€ข Monitors and assesses the strategy at regular intervals to harness new emerging opportunities, to identify probable changes to the internal direction and external environment, and to make mid-term adjustments; โ€ข Provides substantive support to the Chief of Unit in identifying risks and opportunities related to specific partnerships, and suggests mitigation measures as relevant; โ€ข Prepares inputs on due diligence processes of potential investment and partnership opportunities, in accordance with UN regulations and procedures; โ€ข Contributes to dialogues with partners to improve development assistance policies and practice; โ€ข Assists in liaison and coordination with UN entities at country, regional and HQ levels, to help package and define UN business strategies, including differentiated value propositions to attract partners, both traditional and non-traditional. 2. Participates in joint resource mobilization for the Partnerships Unit โ€ข Provides substantive support to the Chief of Unit to develop and implement locally-tailored resource mobilization strategies and initiatives, and identify appropriate data and benchmarks to measure progress and success; โ€ข Monitors and analyzes existing resource mobilization partnerships and relationships, including those with high net worth; โ€ข Contributes to the design, formulation, implementation, monitoring and reporting of joint programmes and programming processes for use in joint resource mobilization; โ€ข Assists in the production and distribution of marketing materials to raise awareness about opportunities for working with the UN on SDG investment; 3. Provides substantive support on mobilization efforts for accelerating the achievement of the SDGs, as directed โ€ข Provides substantive support on mobilization efforts for stakeholder engagement in programmatic and intergovernmental processes at all levels.; โ€ข Analyzes trends and provides substantive support on new and innovative partnerships and coalition models for development and SDG acceleration; โ€ข Provides inputs for briefing papers and discussion points on issues related to partnerships and engagement modalities for development for consideration by the Chief of Unit; โ€ข Assists in engaging with external stakeholders - including the national government, international financial institutions and others - promoting the work of the agency; โ€ข Contributes to the design and execution of innovative proposals to strengthen the Unitโ€™s engagement and reputation, and to generate greater influence and reach in support of the NUA and SDGs. 4. Supports knowledge management and capacity development โ€ข Assists in the development, maintenance and sharing of knowledge and partnership intelligence, to inform and position the Unit to effectively generate and harness opportunities to meet its resource mobilization targets; โ€ข Contributes to knowledge networks and communities of practice at national, regional and global levels; โ€ข Undertakes activities to strengthen the capacity of stakeholders to mainstream and promote SDG investment partnerships; โ€ข Provides substantive support for the discovery, evaluation and selection of partnership opportunities at the sourcing and origination stages. 5. Other โ€ข Contributes to the collection and analysis of data and identification of trends or patterns and provides draft insights through graphs, charts, tables and reports using data visualization methods for data-driven planning, decision-making, presentation and reporting. Work ExperienceA minimum of two years of progressively responsible experience in providing strategic support to partnerships, project/programme management, resource mobilization or development finance in the context of development cooperation or related area is required. Experience in interacting with a range of local, national and international partners is required. Experience working in a multicultural environment and establishing working partnerships with a diverse range of stakeholders is desirable. Experience in the preparation and presentation of analytical reports, project proposals, training materials or similar documentation is desirable. 1 year or more of experience in data analytics or related area is desirable.
