Organizational Setting
The main aim of the FAO country offices, which are headed by an FAO Representative, is to assist governments to develop policies, programmes and projects to achieve food security and to reduce hunger and malnutrition, to help develop the agricultural, fisheries, and forestry sectors, and to use their environmental and natural resources in a sustainable manner.
The position is located at the FAO Representation in Georgia under the project GCP/GEO/021/MUL - โEnhancing food safety and the competitiveness of the livestock sector through improvement of the National Animal Identification, Registration and Traceability System (NAITS-II)โ.
Reporting Lines
The Consultant will work under the overall supervision of the FAO Representative in Georgia, the direct supervision of the Assistant FAO Representative in Georgia, the technical supervision and guidance of the Lead Technical Officer (LTO), in close collaboration with the National Team Leader and the FAO Staff at the Country, Regional and Head Offices.
Technical Focus
The Consultant will assist the National Team Leader in the implementation and delivery of the project GCP/GEO/021/MUL. He/she will also support the Programme team of the FAO Representation in Georgia in the formulation and implementation of various FAO programmes and projects in the animal health and production sectors.
Tasks and responsibilities
โข ย ย ย ย Provide technical support in the development, implementation, and evaluation of the NAITS project.ย
โข ย ย ย ย Assist in the review of the project-related documents and reports; identify priorities, liaise with relevant stakeholders; identify follow-up actions.
โข ย ย ย ย Prepare various project-related written outputs, e.g., project reports, background papers, and analysis papers.ย
โข ย ย ย ย Assist in leading consultative and other meetings with relevant stakeholders, including donor and government institutions in the animal production and health sector, and related to the NAITS project.
โข ย ย ย ย Assist in planning conferences, seminars, study tours, and training workshops, including development of agenda, identification of participants, preparation of event reports and presentations under the NAITS Project.ย
โข ย ย ย ย Provide technical advice regarding the development of policies and strategies in the animal production and health sector.
โข ย ย ย ย Perform other related tasks as required.
CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING
Minimum Requirements ย ย ย
โข ย ย ย ย Advanced university degree from an institution recognized by the International Association of Universities (IAU)/UNESCO in veterinary medicine, livestock production, or any other discipline relevant to the work of the Organization; Consultants with bachelor`s degree need two additional years of relevant professional experience.
โข ย ย ย ย At least five (5) years of relevant work experience in technical cooperation-related activities, policy advice, and analysis relating to food safety, animal production and health.
โข ย ย ย ย Working knowledge in English language.
