Position Overview
The Anesthesia and Critical Care Consultant will lead the provision of safe, high-quality anesthesia and critical care services at Koidu Government Hospital (KGH) and the Maternal Center of Excellence (MCOE).
The consultant will oversee the management of critical patients, supervise anesthesia and critical care staff, and teach and ensure adherence to international and local standards of perioperative and intensive care. This role combines advanced clinical practice with leadership responsibilities, capacity building, and quality improvement.
The recruitment type for this position is international.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
โข Provide comprehensive anesthesia, perioperative, and critical care services in KGH (including MCOE).
โข Supervise and mentor nurse anesthetists, critical care nurses, students, and residents, ensuring high standards of clinical care.
โข As the head of anesthesia and critical care unit, he/she will oversee clinical operations of the anesthesia and critical care unit, including equipment functionality, availability and good of medications, and adherence to safety protocols.
โข Develop and implement evidence-based clinical guidelines and standard operating procedures for anesthesia and critical care.
โข Support morbidity and mortality reviews, simulation trainings, and emergency preparedness drills.
โข Contribute to capacity-building efforts and professional development programs for the clinical team.
โข Collaborate with surgical, obstetric, internal medicine, pediatrics, and emergency teams to strengthen multidisciplinary patient management.
โข Participate in data collection, research, and quality improvement initiatives to enhance clinical outcomes.
Education and Work Experience Requirements:
โข Medical Degree (MD or MBChB) with specialization in Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine with valid license.
โข Minimum of 5 years post-specialization experience in anesthesia and critical care, preferably in a resource-limited setting.
โข Proven leadership and supervisory experience within a hospital-based anesthesia/critical care unit.
โข Strong clinical, organizational, and mentoring skills.
โข Demonstrated ability to develop and implement clinical protocols and quality assurance systems.
โข Excellent teamwork, communication, and interpersonal skills.
