Description

AIV Engineer (Assembly, Integration and Verification Engineer) in the Test Support Section, TEC-MXC.
The Section belongs to the Test Centre Division and is part of the Mechanical Department in the Directorate of Technology, Engineering and Quality.

You will provide support to ESA projects (such as ARIEL and EnVision) with respect to the AIV, AIT (assembly, integration and test) and programmatic domains, focusing in particular on environmental tests, as well as launch campaign preparation and execution. The projects requesting expert technical support from our Section belong to most of the ESA directorates. Support for Concurrent Design Facility (CDF) studies and technological R&D will also be requested as ancillary assignments.

Duties

You will report to the TEC-MXC Head of Section and within the AIT/AIV technical fields described above, your main tasks and responsibilities will include:

โ€ข providing expert technical support and consultancy to ESA projects, programmes and general studies with respect to the AIV, AIT and programmatic domains throughout a projectโ€™s lifetime;

โ€ข supporting the definition and implementation of a satellite AIV programme taking account of technical and programmatic requirements, the adequacy of the modelโ€™s philosophy, integration and test facilities;

โ€ข proactively monitoring the satellite AIT activities and the industrial procurement activities related to spacecraft, ground support equipment and test facilities within the assigned project(s);

โ€ข supporting the preparation, organisation and execution of environmental test campaigns at satellite and subsystem level, in particular with respect to mechanical, thermal and electromagnetic testing;

โ€ข supporting launch campaign preparation activities and launch campaign execution;

โ€ข in the early phases of a project, defining and consolidating consistent requirements related to the satellite AIV/AIT phase, following up their implementation and flow-down to system, subsystem and equipment levels (this task includes compiling and maintaining the spacecraft Verification Control Document);

โ€ข supporting project reviews and the evaluation of procurement proposals;

โ€ข participating in the development of engineering standards;

โ€ข supporting the definition of new ESA missions and feasibility studies in the CDF;

Education

A masterโ€™s in aerospace engineering or a relevant scientific discipline is required.

Additional requirements

โ€ข Solid experience in satellite AIV and environmental testing is required: active participation in at least one complete satellite test campaign is considered mandatory and support for launch campaigns in an AIT/AIV role would be considered an asset.
โ€ข Experience with ESA scientific satellites would be considered an asset.
โ€ข Basic knowledge of other engineering areas would be considered an asset.

The working languages of the Agency are English and French. A good knowledge of one of these is required. Knowledge of another Member State language would be an asset.

In principle, recruitment will be within the advertised grade band (A2-A4). However, if the selected candidate has less than four years of relevant professional experience following the completion of the masterโ€™s degree, the position may be filled at A1 level.
