5 Steps to get a job in the United Nations

Mission and objectivesWith its establishment on 7 April 1948, WHO works worldwide to promote health, keep the world safe, and serve the vulnerable. WHOโ€™s goal is to ensure that a billion more people have universal health coverage, to protect a billion more people from health emergencies, and provide a further billion people with better health and well-being. WHO works with the Government of Tรผrkiye and partners to achieve the highest attainable standard of health for all. WHO supports health system strengthening, emergency preparedness and response, and public health promotion.

ContextThe WHO Tรผrkiye Country Office will participate in the global 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence under the theme: โ€œUNiTE to End Digital Violence against All Women and Girls.โ€ This campaign raises awareness of violence against women and girls in both physical and digital spaces, with a focus this year on addressing technology-facilitated violence, such as cyber harassment, doxing, online stalking, and non-consensual image sharing. To support WHOโ€™s campaign efforts in Tรผrkiye, UN Volunteers will be deployed to support awareness-raising, communications, youth and community engagement.

Task DescriptionUnder the direct supervision of the PRSEAH Coordinator at WHO Tรผrkiye, the UN Community Volunteer will: ยท Participate in orientation on WHOโ€™s strategy and messaging for the 16 Days of Activism campaign, with a focus on ending digital violence against women and girls. ยท In collaboration with WHO project managers, assist WHO in planning and integrating Gender-Based Violence (GBV) awareness sessions in workshops that target youth, men, persons with disabilities, beneficiaries, partners, and community leaders to educate them on recognizing and preventing gender-based violence. ยท In collaboration with the UN Volunteer in charge of Community Engagement and Digital Violence Prevention, assist in developing and disseminating communications materials (e.g., posters, social media posts, short videos, testimonies) that highlight the risks and impact of digital violence. ยท Collaborate with WHO Mental Health Team to develop key messages for healthcare staff on how they can contribute to ending digital violence against all women and girls. ยท Help coordinate outreach to local youth groups, womenโ€™s organizations, OPDs, Universities, schools, and community leaders, encouraging their participation in campaign events. ยท Promote the campaignโ€™s core messages through local community platforms. ยท Maintain records of participants, attendance, workshop materials and event documentation. ยท Any other related tasks as may be required or assigned by the supervisor. Furthermore, UN Volunteers are encouraged to integrate the UN Volunteers programme mandate within their assignment and promote voluntary action through engagement with communities in the course of their work. As such, UN Volunteers should dedicate a part of their working time to some of the following suggested activities: - Strengthen their knowledge and understanding of the concept of volunteerism by reading relevant UNV and external publications and take active part in UNV activities (for instance in events that mark International Volunteer Day, 5th of December). - Be acquainted with and build on traditional and/or local forms of volunteerism in the host country. - Provide annual and end of assignment self-reports on UN Volunteer actions, results and opportunities (for instance at https://vra.unv.org). - Contribute articles/wrjte-ups on field experiences and submit them for UNV publications/websites, newsletters, press releases, etc. - Assist with the UNV Buddy Programme for newly arrived UN Volunteers. - Promote or advise local groups in the use of online volunteering or encourage relevant local individuals and organizations to use the UNV Online Volunteering service whenever technically possible.
