Project Name: Re-Envisioning Education Facilities in Ukraine: Rehabilitation and Repairs of War-Damaged Social Infrastructure

Title of assignment: National Consultant -Architect/Interior Designer

Duty Station: Kyiv (region), Ukraine, home-based.

Period of assignment/services: up to 3 months

The main objectives of the Consultant鈥檚 assignment are:

Deliver Impactful and Sustainable Design Solutions

Provide expertise in interior design, architecture, furniture selection, and usability to ensure compliance with international standards and guidelines, including Accessibility, HSE, Gender Mainstreaming, and Energy Efficiency.

Align designs with the New School Concept guidelines and integrate modern, ergonomic, and durable solutions for educational settings.

Enhance Collaboration and Community Engagement

Foster strategic collaboration with project stakeholders, including engineers, local authorities, and school management, to address specific community needs.

Present concepts and ideas effectively through 3D visualizations (2d drawings) stakeholder discussions, and participatory methodologies to ensure ownership and alignment.

Drive Strategic Implementation and Advocacy

Support the development, refinement, and replication of the Pilot School Project Concept through methodological guidance, procurement oversight, and compliance with sustainability criteria.

Advocate for the project's principles and objectives at all levels through networking, partnerships, and reporting on progress and outcomes.


Scope of work:

1. Technical Expertise and Design Development:

a) provision of specialized knowledge in interior design, architecture, furniture selection, and the usability and accessibility of premises to deliver impactful and sustainable results;

b) alignment of the proposed designs with the New School Concept guidelines established by the Ministry of Education and Science through support received from UNDP;

c) ensuring compliance with international standards, including Accessibility, Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE), Gender Mainstreaming, Energy Efficiency, and EU educational principles;

d) development and refinement of 3D visualizations to clearly present design concepts and ideas to stakeholders;

e) research and recommendation of modern, ergonomic, and durable furniture solutions tailored to educational settings;

f) preparation of detailed furniture specifications, including technical descriptions, materials, dimensions, and compliance with safety and educational standards.

2. Strategic Collaboration and Stakeholder Engagement:

a) working closely with UNDP Project Manager and the engineering team to ensure seamless integration of architectural and engineering solutions;

b) collaboration with UNDP Community Officer(s) to engage with local authorities, regional education departments, and school management to address community-specific needs and preferences;

c) presentation of design ideas and the overall project concept to communities and beneficiaries to foster understanding, collaboration, and ownership.

3. Methodology and Conceptual Development:

a) provision of methodological guidance to support programming processes, including the development of tools and frameworks for presenting the Pilot School Concept;

b) preparation of detailed methodological materials to substantiate and describe the Pilot School Project Concept for implementation and replication;

c) contribution to strategic discussions and planning sessions to advance the development of the Pilot School Project Concept.

4. Procurement and Vendor Management:

a) overseeing procurement needs and activities and vendor management related to architectural, design, and interior solutions (incl. furniture);

b) ensuring that all procurement related activities are aligned with the guidelines and standards of the New School Concept and meet the quality, sustainability, and cost-effectiveness criteria.

5. Advocacy and Networking:

a) building and sustaining effective partnerships with relevant government counterparts, stakeholders, partners, and academic institutions;

b) advocating for the Pilot School Project Concept at local, regional, and national levels through active networking and engagement.
