Living conditions and remarksDar es Salaam offers a vibrant cultural experience with a mix of modern and traditional living conditions, though it requires awareness of local customs and safety precautions. Mobile networks and internet services are available, though speeds can vary. Generally, electricity is reliable, but occasional power outages can occur. The average cost of living for one person is about $811 per month, which includes rent, food, and transport. Dressing modestly is highly recommended, especially when visiting religious sites. Tanzania is a unique country, and Dar es Salaam is a unique (humanitarian) operation. It provides an interesting and enriching environment, but also requires a mature level of cultural awareness, as well as stamina and commitment. Therefore, flexibility and the ability and willingness to live and work in harsh and potentially hazardous conditions, involving physical hardship and little comfort, are essential.
