The project objective is to contribute to the national processes of strengthening family farmers in Brazil for poverty reduction and rural revitalization. The outcome is to implement differentiated policies and programs that improve the capacities of the national government, local and family farmers in areas such as ATER (rural extension and technical advisory services), Credit Programs, land access and governance, access to markets and the strengthening of cooperativism.
Reporting Lines
The incumbent reports to the Assistant Representative in FAO Brazil โ Programme.
Technical Focus
Elaboration of the Map of Vulnerability of Family Farming to Climate Change in Brazil that ensures methodological precision and the production of qualified subsidies for the strengthening of public policies.
Tasks and Responsibilities
Phase 1 โ Planning and Secondary Data Collection
โข ย ย Identify relevant secondary databases of socioeconomic, productive, and environmental nature, focusing on the municipal level.
โข ย ย Collect data from official and academic sources, ensuring comprehensive territorial coverage.
โข ย ย Map main data sources to enable regionalized analysis.
โข ย ย Plan the structure and implementation of the Delphi Panel.
โข ย ย Systematize the collected data into a structured database to support subsequent analysis and modeling.
The expected result of this phase is a systematized database based on the selection of existing secondary sources, ready for the stages of analysis, modeling and methodological validation.
Phase 2 โ Analytical Modeling and Methodological Validation by Delphi Panel
โข ย ย Develop analytical modeling to measure the vulnerability of family farming to climate change.
โข ย ย Integrate selected variables into the model, applying geoprocessing and spatial analysis techniques.
โข ย ย Quantify exposure, sensitivity, and adaptive capacity of family farming systems across municipalities.
โข ย ย Organize and conduct a Delphi Panel with academic experts, MDA technicians, and institutional partners.
โข ย ย Validate the modeling structure, variable selection, and weighting criteria through the Delphi Panel.
โข ย ย Refine the vulnerability index based on expert feedback.
โข ย ย Systematize the results of the Delphi Panel, documenting consultation rounds, changes made, and the consensus reached. An analytically validated and refined model of vulnerability with documented expert feedback and consensus.
The incumbent must systematize the results of the Delphi Panel, including the consultation rounds, the changes made, and the consensus built throughout the process.
Phase 3 โ Preparation of the Vulnerability Map and Final Technical Report
โข ย ย Produce a georeferenced Vulnerability Map of Family Farming to Climate Change.
โข ย ย Compile a comprehensive Final Technical Report, detailing methodology, data, and findings.
โข ย ย Provide actionable insights and recommendations to inform public policies on technical assistance, rural extension, and family farming support in the context of climate change.ย
The final product should provide qualified subsidies for the planning and execution of public policies, especially in the areas of technical assistance and rural extension and in the strengthening of family farming production chains in the face of the challenges imposed by climate change.

Minimum Requirements ย
โข ย ย University degree in Geosciences, Agrarian Sciences; Environmental Sciences; Applied Social Sciences, according to the CAPES/CNPq table of areas of knowledge.
โข ย ย Minimum proven experience of 8 (eight) years in foreign trade, international relations and productive inclusion for access to markets.
โข ย ย Working knowledge of English and Portuguese;
โข ย ย National of Brazil or resident of the country with valid work permit

โข ย ย Participation in projects or research aimed at the elaboration of socioeconomic, environmental or climatic indicators applied to family farming or rural territories; or Acting in studies or diagnoses involving spatial analysis, georeferencing or territorial data modeling; or Development or application of methodologies for systematization and integrated analysis of socioeconomic and environmental databases with a focus on territorial planning and risk assessment; or Production of technical or scientific knowledge on territorial vulnerability, climate risk or socioeconomic inequalities in rural areas.
