Established in 1951, IOM is a Related Organization of the United Nations, and as the leading UN agency in the field of migration, works closely with governmental, intergovernmental and non-governmental partners. IOM is dedicated to promoting humane and orderly migration for the benefit of all. It does so by providing services and advice to governments and migrants.
Under the overall supervision of the Project Managerย and direct supervision of the Senior Project Associate, the successful candidate will be based in Washington DC, USA and will have the following duties and responsibilities:
- Provide information on IOMโs Protection activities to eligible beneficiaries in line with the Standard Operating Procedures.
- Conduct confidential information gathering/sharing interviews with beneficiaries
- Assess the protection needs of the beneficiary and develop individually tailored and viable plans in coordination with relevant service providers and IOM country offices abroad.
- Record demographic, biographic, and case information in IOMโs proprietary tools and systems.
- Coordinateย theย travel arrangementsย of the beneficiaries ย withย Movement Management colleaguesย andย relevantย IOM missions in countries of return and en route.
- Secure, and account for travel documents in accordance with the local Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Ensure secure storage of documentation and data in accordance with IOM principles and guidelines while guaranteeing limited access to physical files.
- Assist in preparing regular data mining reports in order to ensure that the relevant tools and database are up-to-date, accurate and maintain the integrity of relevant projects. ย If required, assist facilitation of information and awareness-raising activities and outreach among target beneficiary groups,ย relevant US Government Departments,ย and other stakeholders (NGOs, Community Groups, Migration Agencies, etc.).ย
- In coordination with theย supervisor,ย performย in-person assistance at the airport and/or ย operational escort duties when required, such as providing custodial care of travel documentation; verifying identities and documentation, including visas, tickets and other items in the travel bag; assisting with airport formalities, including flight arrivals, curb-side assistance, check-in, luggage formalities, immigration procedures, security screening systems and customs clearance; escorting arriving individuals to ground transportation and departing individuals to their gates; visually confirming flights have departed; ensuring individuals with special needs or equipment receive appropriate support; and, as needed, sending notifications using relevant systems.ย
- Undertake duty travel as needed to participate in meetings and trainings, and to carry outย pre-departure assistance if needed.ย
- Demonstrate an in-depth understanding of relevant Movement Operations SOPs and Movements-related systems and databases, as well as the ability to remain professional, impartial and unbiased during all interactions with migrants and colleagues per the IOM Standard of Conduct and instruction on the prevention of sexual exploitation and abuse (PSEA).
- Maintain and ensure the confidentiality and integrity of all relevant paperwork in line with standards of conduct and data protection rules. Alert supervisorsย or management of any non-compliance to SOPs or codes of conduct by IOM staff members or partners.
- Perform such other duties as may be assigned. Education
- High School diploma with five years of relevant experience; or,
- Bachelorโs degree in Social Science, International Relations,ย Regional Studies or a related field from an accredited academic institution with three years of relevant professional experience. Accredited Universities are those listed in the UNESCO World Higher Education Database. ย Experience
- Experience in working with migrants, civil society and government is an asset.
- Proven ability to work with vulnerable individuals.
- Prior experience working for IOM, a UN agency or another international organization.ย
- Work experience in programs including movement operations component, particularly protection programmes is an advantage.ย
- Experience in communicating withย individuals who have complex needs.
- Demonstrated knowledge with handling sensitive information and personal data Skills
- Knowledge of other language(s) is an advantage.ย
- Computer/software literate with good knowledge in Microsoft Office.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Attention to detail and ability to organise.
- Self-motivated, objective driven and able to use own initiative and work under pressure with minimum supervision.
- Knowledge and due application of case work principles.
- Knowledge of migration-related subject areas dealt with by IOM.
- High record keeping, information analysis and entry proficiency.
- Ability to fluently present to external stakeholders.ย Languages
IOMโs official languages are English, French, and Spanish, all staff members are required to be fluent in one of the three languages.ย Thorough knowledge of English language is required.ย
