VN 25/37 Cloud Platform Engineer
Within the Digital Solutions and SAF Division (DSA) the Cloud Platform Engineer supports maintenance and evolutions of Cloud Services. We are looking for an expert who brings a product mindset to platform development, treating the cloud services and infrastructure as products that serve and empower internal and external engineering teams. The post holder will shape our cloud services by building and maintaining platform services using technologies like Kubernetes, Crossplane and Backstage, will work closely with users of the cloud solutions to understand their needs and deliver self-service capabilities and boost productivity, reliability and scale.
Duties
- Design, implement, and maintain self-service solutions running on EUMETSATโs hybrid cloud.
- Contribute to and support the implementation of overall EUMETSAT Cloud and AI/ML Strategy.
- Collaborate with end-users and engineering teams at Member States to understand pros and cons as well as opportunities to improve the user experience.
- Provide technical expertise to the other teams in EUMETSAT on private and public cloud services, including container management solutions and higher-level cloud services;
- Promote and advocate cloud technologies adoption in EUMETSAT including establishment of best practices as well as sharing and maintaining the โknow-howโ.
- Conduct technical interactions with service providers and industrial partners.
- Contribute to the generation/maintenance of technical baseline documentation, involving requirements engineering of the related services, interface specifications, design of functions and software applications.

QUALIFICATIONS
University degree in computer science, software engineering or other relevant discipline.
LANGUAGES Candidates must be able to work effectively in English and have some knowledge of French.

Duties

Skills and Experience
- Proven practical experience using cloud infrastructures.
- Strong and applied expertise in cloud infrastructure architecture and implementations;
- Hands-on experience with private and public cloud services including Kubernetes;
- Knowledge of backend development in Go or Python;
- Excellent troubleshooting skills;
- Solid knowledge of cloud-native patterns and tools (e.g., Helm, Kustomize, GitOps, controllers), familiarity with CI/CD, Infrastructure-as-code (e.g. Terraform);
- Excellent organisational, communication and collaboration skills with a strong pro-active and team-player attitude together with the ability to work autonomously with a minimum of supervision under high workloads.
Following additional experience in the areas listed below will be considered as strong advantage:
- Hands-on experience with Crossplane and Kubernetes in production environments;
- Proficiency with building and extending Backstage plugins, catalogues, and integrations;
- Familiarity with federated Identity and Access Management;
- Experience in building custom CLIs;
- Knowledge of cloud technologies and cloud services available on the European market.
Employment Conditions
The initial contract will be of 4 yearsโ duration, with subsequent 5 year contracts being awarded thereafter, subject to individual performance and organisation requirements. There is no limit to the amount of follow-up contracts a staff member can receive up to the EUMETSAT retirement age of 63 and there are certainly opportunities to establish a long career perspective at EUMETSAT.
This post is graded A2/A4 on the EUMETSAT salary scales. The minimum basic salary for this post is EURO 7,340 per month (net of internal tax but excluding pension contribution and insurances) which may be negotiable on the basis of skills and experience. The salary scale provides for increments on the anniversary of taking up employment, and scales are reviewed by the EUMETSAT Council with effect from 1 January each year.
