ContextThe SDG Integration Team located with UNDPโs Global Policy Network (GPN) offers a menu of services emphasizing direct short- to medium-term engagements to respond rapidly to requests from country offices for support on national implementation and monitoring of integrated policy solutions, qualitative and evidence-driven analysis for accelerated progress, and knowledge sharing and upscaling of innovative approaches to sustainable development. The teamโs work emphasizes the application of evidence-driven data and analytics for SDG implementation and reporting. In this regard, advances in digital technology are creating data at unprecedented levels of detail and speed, turning the stories of peopleโs lives into numbers every minute of every day, across the globe. An important focus of the integration work is to complement traditional data (e.g., national statistics,) with new and alternative sources including digital โbreadcrumbs,โ satellite data, social media to identify emerging trends and gain new perspectives on issues in development.
Task DescriptionWe are seeking enthusiastic and motivated Online Volunteers to support the BPPS in annotating policy documents for artificial intelligence (AI) applications. Under the guidance of data team members, the Online Volunteer will: โ Attend one online induction session during Week 1 of the assignment. โ Visually annotate policy documents using a web-based annotation tool, following the provided guidelines. โ Perform quality checks and validate annotations to ensure a high standard of quality. The primary objective of this initiative is to collect a high-quality human-labeled dataset that will support the development of a cutting-edge document-processing AI application at UNDP. Volunteers will receive detailed instructions on how to use the annotation tool and access a curated selection of documents. Each volunteer is expected to meet a minimum contribution threshold of annotations over the course of the assignment to achieve successful completion. By participating in this unique initiative, the Online Volunteer will: โ Develop practical experience in data annotation, a foundational process in AI development. โ Build connections with data team members at UNDP. โ Gain insights into the role of data in contributing to impactful global development initiatives. Please note that this assignment involves tasks that require analysing visually diverse inputs, such as labelling images. Due to the specific nature of this role, it requires a certain level of visual acuity. Therefore, we are unable to accommodate volunteers with visual impairments for this particular position. We encourage individuals with different abilities to explore other opportunities with us that may align better with their skills. To ensure suitability for the task, each candidate will complete a brief online assessment to verify their computer literacy and annotation skills. This assignment builds upon the success of an earlier pilot initiative. If you previously participated in the pilot, please clearly indicate this in your motivation statement. By joining this initiative, you contribute directly to harnessing the power of AI to address critical challenges and advance sustainable development at UNDP. Apply now to be part of one of the largest UNV assignments and make a meaningful impact!
