5 Steps to get a job in the United Nations

Mission and objectivesUN Women exists to advance womenโ€™s rights, gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls. As the lead UN entity on gender equality and secretariat of the UN Commission on the Status of Women, we shift laws, institutions, social behaviours and services to close the gender gap and build an equal world for all women and girls. Our partnerships with governments, womenโ€™s movements and the private sector coupled with our coordination of the broader United Nations translate progress into lasting changes. We make strides forward for women and girls in four areas: leadership, economic empowerment, freedom from violence, and women, peace and security as well as humanitarian action. UN Women keeps the rights of women and girls at the centre of global progress โ€“ always, everywhere. Because gender equality is not just what we do. It is who we are. Women Count is UN Womenโ€™s global gender data programme. Also known as โ€˜Making Every Woman and Girl Countโ€™, it was created to support member states in implementing the 2030 Agenda, and aims to affect a radical shift in the availability, accessibility and use of data and statistics on key aspects of gender equality and womenโ€™s empowerment. Women Count is a multi-year and multi-country programme of work, supported by global and regional activities linking normative and technical work on gender statistics at the global level to the regional and national levels. Women Count has three broad aims: 1. Create an enabling environment: Promoting a supportive policy environment to strengthen gender statistics production and use. 2. Improve data production: Through building capacity of national statistical systems and supporting improved data collection so that we can better monitor the SDGs. 3. Increase data use: By providing tools, training and making data accessible, so that data users are better able to use gender statistics in policy, programmes and advocacy.

ContextIn 2026 the programme will be commemorating a ten year milestone, and launching a Decade of Impact campaign, kicking off in March 2026. A key campaign asset will be a global impact video to be shared at events and on social media. The duration of the video needs to be 2 minutes.

Task DescriptionUnder the supervision of the Outreach and Communication Specialist, the online volunteer will โ€ข Support the global launch of the Decade of Impact campaign by creating a compelling 2 minute video with visual animation elements as well as video clips that highlight the story of the programmeโ€™s successes. โ€ข Integrate visual elements such as custom illustrations and icons, ensuring a cohesive visual narrative. โ€ข Where needed, designed engaging and accessible data visualizationsโ€”including graphs, charts, timelines, and infographicsโ€”to simplify and communicate complex data and content effectively. โ€ข Export the video in two versions: one for social media and one for screening at events.
