Across Asia and the Pacific, women are at the frontline of climate change impacts yet face persistent barriers in accessing the resources and technologies needed to build resilient livelihoods. Low-carbon technologies offer transformative potential to improve productivity, reduce time poverty, and enhance climate resilience. However, many women continue to be excluded from these opportunities due to gendered constraints in access to finance, information, and decision-making spaces.
The EmPower: Women for Climate-Resilient Societies Programme, jointly implemented by UN Women and the UN Environment Programme (UNEP), works to address these structural inequalities by promoting womenโs leadership in climate action, enhancing their access to low-carbon solutions, and strengthening gender-responsive climate policies and financing mechanisms.
Strategic communication and advocacy are central pillars of EmPowerโs approach. The programme invests in knowledge products and multimedia materials to raise awareness, engage diverse audiences, and amplify the voices and leadership of women in climate action. These efforts help to ensure that gender equality remains a central focus in climate discourse at national, regional, and global levels.
To support these goals, UN Women is seeking to engage a Multimedia Producer (Retainer Consultant) to develop high-quality, inclusive, and accessible communication products that can convey complex issues through compelling storytelling and visual design, aligned with the UN Women's communication standards and gender equality principles.
The consultant will be reporting to Programme Coordination for Gender and Climate Change and will be supported by Social Media and Programme Visibility International Consultant, who will be the point of contact on the contract and payment issues.

Description of Responsibilities/ Scope of Work
The consultant will be responsible for conceptualizing, designing, and delivering high-quality multimedia content that supports UN Womenโs strategic communication and advocacy objectives, especially in gender-responsive climate action.ย
Responsibilities include:ย
Reviewing background materials relevant to the topic (e.g. reports, briefs, and branding and accessibility guidelines); Proposing a creative concept and visual treatment aligned with key messages and intended audiences; Developing a distribution and promotion strategy, including identifying key platforms for dissemination, recommending tailored formats for each channel and proposing a set of performance indicators to monitor reach and effectiveness after launch; Producing multimedia content such as animations, live-action films, mixed-media videos, illustrations, and other visual storytelling products, ensuring coherence and quality throughout the creative process; Integrating narration, subtitles, music, sign-language interpretation, and UN Women branding; and Ensuring all outputs are accessible and inclusive in accordance with the UN Disability-Inclusive Communication Guidelines and UN Womenโs branding and ethical communication standards, including captioning, visual clarity, and representational diversity.Consultantโs Workplace and Official Travel
The time required for the consultancy is estimated at 200 working days within the period indicated. The consultant will be engaged under a retainer contract, which facilitates direct engagement of the consultant depending on need and availability within the contract period for a pre-agreed fee.ย

Proficient in managing the full production process: concept development, scripting, filming, editing, post-production, and distribution. Advanced knowledge of multimedia software such as Adobe Creative Suite (Premiere Pro, After Effects, Photoshop, Illustrator). Ability to translate complex ideas and data into compelling visual narratives. Excellent analytical skills withย aย strong drive for results and capacity to work independently.ย Familiar with best practices for socialย mediaย video formats, accessibility, and analytics.Excellent English communication and writing skills.ย
Required Qualifications
Education and Certification:ย
Masterโs degree or equivalent inย graphic design, visual art,ย animationย or computer graphicย or a related field isย required. A first-level university degree in combination with twoย additionalย years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.ยExperience:ย
Minimumย 5ย yearsย of progressively responsible experience in multimedia production, including video, photography, animation, and/or motion graphics.ย Demonstrated experience producing gender-responsive and inclusive multimedia content. Experience working on storytelling for development, gender equality, human rights, climate change, or humanitarian themes.Languages:ย
Fluency in Englishย isย required.ย
