5 Steps to get a job in the United Nations

Background:

UN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security.

The United Nations Womenโ€™s Peace and Humanitarian Fund (WPHF) is a partnership between the United Nations, Member States, and the civil society, which supports women led and womenโ€™s rights organizations working to build peace and provide humanitarian response throughout the world. Since the end of 2016, the WPHF has been supporting over 1,400 civil society organizations and is present in 46 countries worldwide.ย

UN Women hosts the Secretariat of WPHF within the PSR unit. UN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security.

Since its launch in 2016, WPHF has funded and supported the capacity of over 1,400 local and grassroots civil society organizations in 46 crisis-affected countries around the world. UN Women hosts the Secretariat of WPHF. The WPHF Secretariat provides support to the Funding Board, mobilizes resources from governments, companies, foundations, and individuals; provides day-to-day support to Country Offices implementing WPHF programmes; ensures timely and quality monitoring and reporting; and amplifies the work and impact of WPHF civil society partners around the world. In addition to its Regular Funding Cycle, which supports local interventions led by and working alongside women to contribute to peace and humanitarian action worldwide, WPHF has establish two unique financing mechanisms to respond to new and emerging crises: the Rapid Response Window for Women and Peace Processes, which was requested by the UN SG and supports womenโ€™s participation in Track 1 and 2 peace processes and the implementation of peace agreements, and the Window for Women Human Rights Defenders (WHRDs), which promotes the protection and the participation of WHRDs in crisis settings.

Effective communications and advocacy are critical to the Women, Peace and Security Agenda, especially in the current context of a pushback on human rights, increased militarization, and decreasing overseas development assistance.

Under the overall supervision of the WPHF Head of Secretariat and day-to-day supervision of the Communications and Advocacy Specialist, the consultant will support the development and implementation of WPHFโ€™s communications and campaigns functions as part of WPHFโ€™s wider communications and advocacy strategy.

The consultants will provide monthly reports outlining activities throughout the month.
