The International Monetary Fundโs French Section is looking to recruit a reliable, dynamic, and collaborative Translator/Senior Translator. The French Section falls under the Language Services Division of the Corporate Services and Facilities Department.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Chief of the French Section, the successful candidate will provide accurate, timely and stylistically appropriate translations from English into French, using Microsoft Word, spreadsheet, CAT tools, Neural Machine Translation tools, and other relevant software. Specifically, the selected candidate will:
- Translate, mostly without revision, texts covering the full range of Fund documents and publications.
- Revise and/or review translations prepared by freelancers. Post-edit machine-generated translations to ensure they are accurate, fluent, and contextually appropriate.
- Identify and research points of terminology, language, and subject matter during assignments consulting with authors and other experts to clarify ambiguities.
- Contribute to updating and maintaining the terminology database and related reference material.
- Provide guidance and assistance to freelance translators on IMF-specific concepts, specialized terminology and house style and conventions for French usage. Perform other related duties, as assigned.
Qualifications and Experiences:
The ideal candidate will possess the following:
Academic qualifications
Educational development, typically acquired by the completion of an advanced university degree, or equivalent, in Translation, Linguistics, Economics, or a related field, supplemented by a minimum of four (4) years of relevant professional experience, is required; or a university degree, or equivalent, and ten (10) years of relevant professional experience is required.
Languages and Skills
Must possess native-level proficiency in both written and spoken French and have excellent knowledge of English. Advanced knowledge of Spanish and/or Portuguese would be considered an asset. Have considerable professional experience in the field of translation into French of economic and financial texts of a complex nature for international financial institutions, governments, financial institutions, and/or international organizations. Advanced analytical, writing and translation skills. Proven ability to produce, within the established deadlines, final translations that meet high standards of accuracy and consistency and retain the sense, style and register of the original text. Ability to deliver within the assigned deadline, while complying with quality standards. Maintain the context, meaning, and tone of the original content. Review and revise translations to ensure high quality and accuracy. Adhere to deadlines and maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
Professional experience
Considerable professional experience translating economic and financial texts of a difficult and complex nature.
Significant experience in checking the work of other translators.

Shortlisted candidates will be required to take translation/revision tests and will be invited to an interview.
This vacancy shall be filled by a 3-year Term appointment in accordance with the IMFโs employment rules that took effect on May 1, 2015.
A regular staff member who is selected to fill the vacancy will maintain their open-ended status. If the selected candidate is a contractual employee, they will be offered a Term staff appointment. Staff members already on a term appointment will continue their current term but may receive an extension provided that their current term appointment has not already been extended.
