1. Objective of the assignment
The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) is a United Nations specialized agency. Its WIPO Knowledge Center (WKC) is the custodian of the knowledge repository, which is an authoritative source for global IP academic research. ย The WKC oversees WIPOโs physical and digital library collection, in addition to the dissemination of WIPO publications. ย ย
The WKC team requires a qualified Technical Services Librarian to assist with augmenting its digital resources. ย Emphasis is placed on acquiring robust, reliable and peer-viewed resources for research on issues related to intellectual property. ย
The Technical Services Librarian will manage the technical connections between the WKCโs Library operations and the WIPO publications programs with external providers, and then will analyse and report on the output. ย The WKCโs objectives to preserve and provide access to WIPOโs knowledge products, studies, and data will be adjusted accordingly.
2. Deliverables/services
(a) researching and incorporating resources into the knowledge repository that can be directly accessed by global users;
(b) analyzing current digital resources and services, identifying the information gaps for users, and then establishing measurement techniques as to whether gaps are being filled and meeting usersโ needs;
(c) promoting best practices and building collaboration within WIPO and with external stakeholders to ensure meaningful engagement with the WKC;
(d) testing new features and functions of the WKC services;ย
(e) participating in any webinars, meetings or presentations as required, including performing any administrative tasks related to the organization of such events;ย
(f) any other tasks as requested by the Head, WIPO Knowledge Center.
3. Reportingย
The Technical Services Librarian shall work under the supervision of the Head, WIPO Knowledge Center (WKC).
4. Profile
a) Education:
Essential: ย First-level degree in library, information science, knowledge management or a related field. ย Recognized professional qualification. ย
b) Languages:ย
Essential: ย Excellent knowledge of written and spoken English.
Desirable: Good knowledge of at least one of WIPOโs other official languages. ย
c) Experience:ย
Essential: At least two years of experience in professional library services. ย Experience with an integrated library system (ILS). Demonstrated proficiency in data gathering, including usage statistics, and analysis techniques to support assessment activities.
d) Knowledge and skills:ย
Essential:ย
i. Strong awareness of the relationship between digital resources and library outreach services, in relation to all user groups, while respecting digital licenses;
ii. Good knowledge of bibliometrics, or other research impact metrics.ย
Desirable:
i. Experience in reference management tools like Zotero, Mendeley and Endnote.
5. Duration of contract and payment
a) Term of contract: May 15 to December 31, 2025, with a possibility to renew.
b) Location: WIPO Headquarters, Geneva, Switzerland.
c) Remuneration: Applicants are requested to provide an indication of their remuneration expectations in Swiss francs (daily rate)
d) Tax and social security: Consultants shall be solely responsible for meeting any taxation and social security obligations that may arise directly or indirectly from their contract with WIPO.
