54 reasons has partnered with Jamukurnu-Yapalikurnu Aboriginal Corporation (JYAC) to undertake operational management of Martuku Jijiku Maya (Martu Student Hostel) in Newman.
The Hostel aims to support Martu students from remote communities in the Pilbara to attend Newman District Senior High School.
Working in close collaboration with Martu people and community, we are led by Martu elders and culture in our program development, decision-making, and daily operations.

Where you come in:
In this full-time, maximum term position (until January 2026), youโll be based in the Martuku Mijijiku Maya (Martu Student Hostel) in Newman, Western Australia.
As Team Leader, youโll be responsible for providing high quality supervision, support, and leadership for a local team of youth specialists. Although the role is standard weekday hours, youโll also need to be flexible to respond to issues impacting client safety outside of hours as needed.
As part of our Western Australia Programs team, youโll work equally and respectfully alongside our Community Engagement Senior Practitioner and report to our State Director.
You will make an impact by:
ยท Overseeing daily operations in the Hostel and ensuring safety and practice standards are met
ยท Leading and developing a dedicated and driven team, including providing professional supervision
ยท Working with the Senior Practitioner to build relationships with the local community and confidence in the program
ยท Ensuring compliance with service agreements, policies, procedures and legislation, and compiling relevant data to complete reporting and evaluation requirements

This role requires:
ยท Demonstrated experience in working with children, young people and families using a strengths-based approach
ยท Strong cultural sensitivity and demonstrated experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and communities
ยท Facility / Youth Hostel management experience
ยท Experience managing, coaching and mentoring teams in the community sector
ยท Degree in Community Development/Youth Work and/or significant equivalent experience
