CONTEXT
GGGI has a diverse portfolio of programs in developing countries around the world. These in-country programs, together with global products and services, focus on delivering results through an integrated approach of evidence-based green growth planning and implementation aligned to countriesโ development priorities. The organization also focuses on knowledge development and management activities which build a strong theoretical and empirical basis for green growth, while providing concrete options and guidance for policymakers; as well as building the conditions for public and private green infrastructure investments.
The partnership between GGGI and the Government of Mexico has produced several key results to date. In the coming years, GGGI will continue to catalyze resource mobilization to bridge the significant climate finance gap and promote technical advisory in sustainable landscapes (covering agriculture, sustainable forests, coastal resilience and blue economy), sustainable finance (related to green and climate investments), climate action (such as NDC planning and implementation, inclusive green growth plans, MRV system design) and green infrastructure solutions (such as sustainable mobility, circular economy, sustainable energy, green industries).
POSITION SUMMARY
Based in Mexico City, the Sustainable Landscapes Policy Senior Associate will report to the Sustainable Landscapes Lead. The position will be responsible for supporting the implementation of various projects working closely with federal government agencies, subnational governments, development banks, the private sector and international organizations. The position will also collaborate in preparing participative activities and events on nature positive strategies, sustained long-term outcomes for the conservation of biodiversity, deforestation-free production and traceability mechanisms, ecosystem conservation and restoration, promote regenerative agriculture, green business entrepreneurship targeting agri-business, among others.
She/he will be responsible for articulating technical inputs and analysis for the development, delivery, and assessment of work related to the implementation and monitoring of the Sustainable Landscapes thematic area in close collaboration with the Sustainable Finance team, as well as relevant national and subnational counterparts to build cooperative relationships and continue establishing the organization as an effective partner.
PURPOSE
The Sustainable Landscapes Policy Senior Associate supports articulated processes technical inputs on sustainable production and throughout various projects of the Mexico program, from proposal development to delivery, including implementation, capacity building and development of new policies or other strategic planning documents.
Contribute to the implementation of Sustainable Landscapes projects in close collaboration with GGGI's team members and partners for technical consultation and inputs to align efforts and workstreams from national to sub-national level, assigned by the Sustainable Landscapes Lead.
Support the assessment and development of sustained long-term outcomes for the conservation of biodiversity and sustainable production opportunities within targeted sectors and various national and subnational counterparts, private sector and/or NGOs.
Contribute to the development of funding and technical project proposals using a logical framework, under the guidance of the Sustainable Landscapes Lead.
ENGAGEMENT
Works closely with national and subnational counterparts to acquire information/knowledge and to build cooperative relationships and support GGGIโs recognition as an effective partner for policy delivery.
Contribute to liaising, articulating and sustaining GGGIยดs engagement with various federal (e.g. SEMARNAT, AGRICULTURA, CONABIO, CONAFOR, CONANP) and subnational government agencies, national development banks (e.g. FIRA and NAFIN), private sector and NGOs.
Coordinate closely with the Mexico Program team as needed to build and enable complementary capabilities, as well as guarantee the achievement and delivery of high-quality products to government and private sector partners towards attaining the desired impact and goals.
DELIVERY
Provide guidance and technical inputs to feed policy formulation, the design and enhancement of financial instruments, green investment mobilization for sustainable landscapes, climate financing mobilization, project planning and implementation, among others.
Apply technical skills to prepare rigorous analyses and briefing notes, concept notes and analytical reports to support GGGI Mexicoโs engagement with diverse technical and general stakeholder audiences.
Contribute to the implementation of programs, projects, capacity building activities and consolidation of technical analyses on effective management and positive conservation outcomes; enhance connectivity between protected and conserved areas and across landscapes and seascapes; sustainable livelihoods and traceability mechanisms; address climate change by contributing to climate targets and enhancing resilience through nature-based solutions; deforestation-free production and traceability mechanisms, promotion of regenerative practices, among others.
Participate in any other relevant activities deemed necessary for the development of GGGIโs Mexico program, including review of technical deliverables, monitoring and reporting of project activities to ensure effective and timely implementation of projectโs portfolio progress (monthly, semi-annual and annual).
REQUIREMENTS
QUALIFICATIONS
Mexican nationals or holding a valid working visa.
A Bachelorโs degree in relevant fields such as environmental sciences, environmental management, geography, economy, international relations, biology, or similar.
A Masterโs degree in these relevant fields such as climate change, nature-based solutions, sustainable landscapes, environmental sciences, sustainable economics, sustainable finance, or similar;
At least 4-5 years of relevant experience in the promotion and implementation of integrated landscape management strategies, regenerative production and land use, nature positive initiatives, nature-based solutions, landscape restoration and conservation strategies in Mexico.
Knowledge on public policies on sustainable production, natural resource conservation and management.
Knowledge in the use of logical frameworks and theory of change for project design and implementation.
Flexibility to travel inside the country.
Excellent verbal and written fluency in English and Spanish are essential.

WORKING CONDITIONS
The Sustainable Landscapes Policy Senior Associate is an X7 grade level in GGGIโs Mexico salary scale. The salary range for the position starts at USD 32,096. Determination of base salary is subject to candidate's experience, academic background and internal equity.
GGGI provides 15% of base salary towards retirement plan/long-term savings, 27 days of annual leave, and private health insurance that covers dental.
