Mission and objectivesThe Regional Bureau for Arab States (RBAS) based in New York serves as the headquarters for UNDP regional programmes and country offices in 17 Arab countries, with the 18th located in the occupied Palestinian territory. The Bureau is headed by Abdallah EL Dardary, UNDP Assistant Administrator and Director of the UNDP Regional Bureau for Arab States.
ContextUNDP develops training courses to build knowledge and strengthen capacities across the Arab States. To make these resources more accessible, UNDP is preparing the Arabic version of a 70-page training course. The original course was developed in English. To ensure a high-quality Arabic version, UNDP will combine two approaches: • A machine translation of the full course will be produced. • A team of Online Volunteers will review and refine the translation for accuracy, clarity, and consistency. Each Online Volunteer will work on a dedicated section of the text, around 10–15 pages. One additional Online Volunteer will serve as a lead reviewer, harmonizing terminology and ensuring coherence across the entire document. This collaborative approach ensures accuracy while keeping the workload manageable and allowing several volunteers to contribute their expertise. Online Volunteers will: • Gain experience working on a UNDP training product. • Strengthen their translation and editing skills. • Be credited in the final Arabic version of the course. • Contribute to UNDP’s mission of making knowledge resources more accessible across the Arab region
Task DescriptionWe are seeking 5 Online Volunteers to support the translation and review of a 70-page training course. Specifically, the Online Volunteers will: • Review and edit 17 pages of translated text. • Ensure accuracy, readability, and cultural relevance of the translation. • Apply consistent terminology across the course. • Work with the UNDP team and the lead reviewer to produce the final Arabic version. The lead reviewer will review all sections, harmonize style and terminology, and finalize the complete course in Arabic. The Online Volunteers will receive the English original, the translated version, and clear guidance on style, terminology, and formatting.
