5 Steps to get a job in the United Nations

Mission and objectivesYouth Co:Lab positions young people front and center in order to solve the regionโ€™s most pressing challenges. Co-created in 2017 by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Citi Foundation, Youth Co:Lab aims to establish a common agenda for countries in the Asia-Pacific region to empower and invest in youth so that they can accelerate the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through leadership, social innovation and entrepreneurship.

ContextThe overall objective of the EU-funded Strengthening Papua New Guinea Civil Society Organizations Project (PNG CSOs Project) is to contribute to strengthening the capacities of the PNG Civil Society Organizations to become credible governance actors and deepen their engagement in domestic public policy cycle, in line with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Civil society plays a central role in service delivery, democratic participation, conflict prevention, and community resilience in Papua New Guinea. Churches, national NGOs, women-led community organisations, youth groups, environmental networks, and emerging civic actors provide essential services in areas where government presence is limited. At the same time, civil society actors face challenges including limited institutional capacity, fragmented coordination, funding dependency, and uneven provincial reach. Strengthening capacity of CSOs will be done through building the their capacities to operate as agents for inclusive sustainable development in PNG focusing on their internal control systems, operational and technical skills; enhancing their skills to access grants for sustainable development initiatives; strengthen their role in relation to advocacy, public sector reforms and public accountability; and improve networking and coordination to expand the space for national and grassroots civil society organizations to play a more influential, meaningful and active role in articulating with a collective voice citizensโ€™ concerns in the public area including engaging in initiatives to further participatory democracy.

Task DescriptionUnder the supervision of Programme Specialist, Civil Society and Youth, the Online Volunteer will assist with enhancing CSO capacity in PNG. Specifically, this includes: - Conduct desk research to identify PNG CSO. - Categorize and label each PNG CSO using a tagging framework. - Enter findings into a shared template with consistent, accurate documentation (links, descriptions, sources). - Identify relevant 5-10 UNDP programmatic efforts. - Provide document support for relevant intervention (e.g. drafting of agenda, concept note, and 2-pager).
