Organization:

The United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) is an operational arm of the United Nations, supporting the successful implementation of its partners' peacebuilding, humanitarian and development projects around the world. UNOPS supports partners to build a better future by providing services that increase the efficiency, effectiveness and sustainability of peace building, humanitarian and development projects. Project:

UNWB (unwebbuyplus.org) is a UNOPS e-commerce solution for the humanitarian and development sector. The platform was built completely in-house from the ground up in 2017. The IT Team for UNWB (4 people and growing) is based in Bangkok and is fully responsible for the ongoing development and maintenance of the system. The UNWB IT Team works closely with our UNWB procurement colleagues who are based both in Bangkok and in Copenhagen.

The UNWB Software Engineer will be responsible for developing high-quality, secure, scalable, and maintainable code to enhance and extend the UNWB platform. The successful candidate will be working as part of the team and under the supervision of the UNWB Application Architect.

Functional Responsibilities

Participate in 1) development 2) testing and 3) maintenance of the UNWB platform

1. Participate in the development of the UNWB platform in coordination with the UNWB Application Architect:

Implements new functionality

Maintains and enhances existing code

Implements code in alignment with prescribed architecture and based on approved technical designs

Ensures optimal performance, scalability, and usability by adhering to established and evolving architectural standards developed by the UNOPS ICT Enterprise Architecture and Platforms team

Collaborates with team members to achieve optimal results

2. Participate in testing of the UNWB platform

Writes unit tests and other forms of automated tests

Performs technical testing of existing and new functionality when upgrades/patches are applied

Assist in troubleshooting anomalies, understanding impacts and identifying solutions to bugs or gaps in functionality

3. Participate in support and maintenance of the UNWB platform

Responds to reported user issues that may require software patches or enhancements for internal and external platforms

Develops and commits software patches and enhancements to address reported issues

Communicate with UNWB stakeholders to address their questions and requests

Impact of the results:

New functionality is added to the UNWB platform.

Helps with operational tasks of running the application in production.

Knowledge is shared among the team and lessons learned are captured.

Education:

A Secondary school diploma is required as a minimum. A relevant University degree (Bachelor or Master) would be considered an advantage and may substitute for some of the required years of experience. Experience:

A minimum of 7 years of professional experience as a full-stack web developer, backend developer, frontend developer, or a combination of them. In case of Bachelor degree, 3 years of experience are required and 1 year in case of Master.

Proficiency with at least one of these:

NET, C# and relational databases (eg. SQL Server).

Web technologies (JS/TypeScript, HTML, CSS) and at least one modern front-end framework like Svelte or React.

Language:

Full working knowledge of English is required.


Other requirements:

Able to work in Southeast Asian time zone (GMT+7).

Contract type: ICA Contract level: LICA-7, ICS7 Contract duration: Open-ended, subject to organizational requirements, availability of funds and satisfactory performance.

For staff positions only, UNOPS reserves the right to appoint a candidate at a lower level than the advertised level of the post.

For retainer contracts, you must complete a few mandatory courses ( they take around 4 hours to complete) in your own time, before providing services to UNOPS. Refreshers or new mandatory courses may be required during your contract. Please note that you will not receive any compensation for taking courses and refreshers.
