    Organizational Setting and Reporting Relationship

    The position of (Senior/Principal) Economist is assigned to the Economic Research and Development Impact Department (ERDI) but may be redeployed/reassigned to the Operational Departments. You will be based at our Headquarters in Manila, Philippines.

    You will report to Division Director and will oversee National Staff and Administrative Staff.

    This batch recruitment for ADB's Economist Job Family aims to select candidates for current vacancies at different levels. Actual position title and level will be based on the selected candidates' qualifications, experience, and suitable role upon hiring. Successful candidates who will pass the selection process but are not hired for any of the current vacancies will be included in our Economist Candidates pipeline to be considered for vacancies across the Bank.

    Your Role

    As a (Senior/Principal) Economist, you will: lead the research work on policy-relevant issues of strategic interest to ADB Management and its developing members. You will contribute to the publication and sharing of research, prepare analysis to support decision-making by ADB and its member governments, and provide technical support to ADB operations.

    You will:

    Economic Research and Operational Support

  • Undertake applied research on issues in development, macroeconomics, microeconomics, and international economics, with an emphasis on analytical and policy-relevant empirical studies on the department's current research priorities which include economic integration; poverty and inequality; digital economy; macro and financial stability; climate change and sustainable development; and skills and the future work.
Contribute to/lead the design and implementation of research outputs and publications, including ADB's flagship publications, thematic reports, policy briefs, working papers, and publications in peer-reviewed journals Coordinate/lead the internal review and provide substantive advice and comments on the economic rationale and quality of economic analysis in ADB's country strategies and programs; contribute to health, environment, and other related social sector-specific policy and related documents. Participate in teams preparing ADB flagship publications and other projects. Participate/lead in the delivery of internal and external training programs for ADB staff and government officials.

Project Management

At the senior level, manage the design, implementation and administration of technical assistance projects for DMCs on empirically rigorous policy analysis across a broad range of areas.

Knowledge Management

Contribute to the sharing of ADB knowledge outputs and publications. Undertake collaborative research, distribution, networking, and capacity building activities with specialists across a global network of knowledge institutions and with other ADB knowledge and operations departments.

Staff management

Provide leadership and mentoring to teams and individuals and ensure their ongoing learning and development.

Qualifications

You will need:

PhD in Economics or related fields, with a background in empirical analysis and policy-focused research. Suitability to undertake the responsibilities mentioned above at the required level. At least 8 years of relevant professional experience is required at the lower grade level and minimum 12 years at the principal level. Demonstrated experience conducting independent research, including international experience working in several countries. Evidence of high-quality research output and record of publications in international peer-reviewed professional journals. Technical knowledge, analytical, and conceptual skills in economics. Good understanding of ADB's institutional context, priorities, and goals. Written and verbal proficiency in English.
