PURPOSE

The Senior Officer, Resilient Landscapes & Agriculture will lead the AFOLU Community of Practice and will be responsible for managing and developing organizational knowledge, promoting quality assurance, and advancing innovative projects in this area. The AFOLU Lead will disseminate knowledge through flagship publications, engage in capacity-building activities, conduct assessments, and provide leadership support to enhance GGGI's project portfolio in this area.

Additional responsibilities include offering thematic advice, reviewing Project Identification Notes (PIN), identify innovative technologies for new project developments, providing technical guidance, engaging in knowledge sharing and analytical work, supporting resource mobilization, and developing strategic partnerships in alignment with GGGI's Strategy 2030.

ENGAGEMENT

During this tenure, the staff will report to the Assistant Director-General (ADG) and the Head of the Investment and Policy Solutions Division (IPSD). S/he will work closely with country teams and member and partner countries, to provide specialist advice, conduct PIN reviews and ensure quality. While assisting the development of AFOLU flagship programs and projects, offer technical guidance, engage in knowledge sharing, and conduct analytical work under a One GGGI approach.

DELIVERY

• Provide technical guidance within the Programmatic Solution Community of Practice, influencing GGGI's work and synthesizing technical advice to GGGI staff and countries.
• Lead and advance Global Programs to support cross-cutting or early-stage activities within the Programmatic Solution Community of Practice.
• Initiate AFOLU projects, emphasizing collaboration with country team project managers, and explore GGGI flagship projects.
• Monitor and advise project teams on implementing flagship projects, ensuring these are reaching the finish line and completed successfully with the necessary funding.
• Lead and Contribute to the Programmatic Solution Community of Practice by participating in reviews and the PIN process.
• Undertake and lead analytical work, including preparing technical reports, guidelines, and policy briefs.
• Facilitate knowledge sharing across the organization through workshops, webinars, and other educational formats.
• Promote the visibility of the Programmatic Solution Community of Practice both internally and externally.
• Tailor GGGI's service offers to meet the needs of member or partner countries.

  REQUIREMENTS

  QUALIFICATIONS

  • Graduate degree in economics, business, public administration, engineering or similar, related to forest and agricultural sector.
  • Minimum of seven years of professional experience with a focus on smart farming, water-energy-food nexus, micro-finance, agroforestry, REDD+, climate-resilient agriculture, sustainable supply chains, biodiversity conservation, renewable energy integration, carbon sequestration, or related fields. More specifically, core thematic focus for GGGI includes these areas within the context of Climate Forest, and Agriculture.
  • Over seven (7) years of relevant experience in agricultural and forestry policy and project development, sustainable water management, micro-finance, REDD++ financing, and/or climate-resilient agricultural practices in developing countries, including Asia, Africa, and/or Latin America, and the Pacific.
  • Minimum 2 years of international experience (living and working outside of home country). Internships and volunteer work will not be considered. Candidates who do not fulfill this requirement may be considered for a national position.
    • Comprehensive understanding of agricultural, forestry, and blue economy challenges in developing contexts, GGGI initiatives, and current innovations, including those resulting from international agreements (e.g., The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and Paris Agreement).
    • Experience in launching initiatives related to climate-resilient agriculture, sustainable forestry, the blue economy, water-energy-food nexus, micro-finance, and multi-stakeholder engagement. This includes policy analysis, project development, and implementation in these areas.
    • Experience working with international organizations, governments, local communities, indigenous peoples, or other rural and forest dwellers in the implementation of sustainable forest and agricultural practices.

      FUNCTIONAL

      • Extensive professional network in the fields of climate forest and agriculture is an asset.
      • Experience of working at or with multi-lateral development banks and/or development finance institutes is beneficial.
      • Knowledge of green growth approach to advancing forest and agricultural objectives, involving both private and public sector.
      • Excellent written and oral communication, and strong presentation.
      • Proven skills to effectively manage stakeholder relationships, ensure team collaboration, and engage senior government and non-government officials in a multicultural environment.
      • Ensure timely and quality-based delivery of required outputs.
      • Fluency in English is required, and knowledge of another relevant language is an advantage.

          WORKING CONDITIONS

          The Senior Officer is an X9, international grade level in GGGI's salary scale. For X9 International grade, the base salary starts from USD 77,904. Determination of base salary is subject to candidate's experience, academic background and internal equity. GGGI provides 15% of base salary towards retirement plan/long-term savings, 27 days of annual leave, and private health insurance that covers dental and vision. In addition, GGGI provides expatriate benefits such as expatriate allowance - equivalent to 20% of the base salary, educational allowance, and other benefits (terms and conditions are to be reviewed in a case-by-case situation).
