Treasury Operations Department

Treasury Operations Department (TREOP) provides a full range of middle and back-office support for Treasury’s asset management, capital markets and banking functions. TREOP is organized in three operational units: Asset and Liability Operations (TREAL), Banking Operations (TREBK), and Quantitative Solutions and Analytics (TREQA), supported by a TRE Technology Coordination function (TREFT).

Banking Operations (TREBK) ensures all World Bank payments, receipts, and FX related to corporate cash activity are processed and performs key reconciliation controls and reporting over cash transactions and investment portfolios.  The unit consists of four functions responsible for coordinating to execute the work program: (1) cash planning and ensuring all FX conversions are executed to meet the Bank’s liquidity needs and processing payments and receipts for proper accounting; (2) managing bank accounts and relationships with all corporate banking counterparts: (3) performing controls to ensure the completeness, accuracy and validity of all cash and security positions, investigating and resolving differences with external records, and financial reporting of cash balances and external client reporting of investment holdings; and (4) managing the WBG’s Swift infrastructure, maintaining SSIs and key static data related to payment and receipt processing, and managing capital and technology projects related to TREBK.

TREBK staff members are located in the Bank’s Washington DC headquarters, and in the Global Business Centers in Chennai, India and Sofia, Bulgaria.

Responsibilities: 

The TRE Operations Sofia (TRESF) is an integral part of World Bank Treasury Operations and is responsible for a variety of duties providing vital support across its treasury divisions. It works closely with the Headquarters in Washington D.C. and another Global Business Center in Chennai, India. Under the guidance and supervision of a Team Lead and Functional Lead, the incumbent will be responsible for enhancing the data analytics of the TREBK Cash Management and Banking Relations teams by leveraging new technologies and tools.  As such, Data Analysts/Scientists with limited financial services experience are welcome to apply. The incumbent will also be responsible for specific individual tasks/projects within TREBK’s Cash Management and Banking Relations teams in executing the work program, while maintaining close relationships with the other Treasury departments and departments across WBG. 

His/her primary responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, some combination of the following activities:

Data Analytics

• Design and implement data analytics solutions using SQL and Python, and develop and maintain reports and dashboards using business intelligence platforms such as Power BI, Tableau, or similar tools.
• Collaborate with business and technology teams to identify and implement process automations that improve efficiency and accuracy, leveraging tools such as Power Tools or AI-based solutions.
• Conduct requirements gathering sessions with stakeholders.   
• Develop and document data standards, methods and techniques to improve how the underlying data is ingested, maintained, and validated to ensure its accuracy.
• Provide training and support to team members on developing, using and maintaining the new tools and technologies. 
• Work closely with ITS to ensure the solution meets the World Bank IT Infrastructure architecture and security requirements. 

Cash Management and Banking Relations

In addition to data analytics and process automation work, the selected candidate will also be trained as a functional member of the business team with operational duties including some or all of the following:
• Perform daily cash planning to ensure that corporate bank accounts are optimally funded to meet all global payment needs, process payments and receipts, and execute FX spot trades as needed to manage global liquidity requirements.
• Manage banking relationships including conducting relationship review meetings, performing bank account maintenance functions such as opening or closing bank accounts, responding to KYC, AML/CFT inquiries, and performing credit and geopolitical monitoring functions.
• Perform ad-hoc functions or assist with team deliverables and projects; participate in any projects or other initiatives in TRE/WB as they may arise.

Selection Criteria

Attention : Only applicants who are nationals, legal residents, or otherwise have legal presence in the duty station independent of any employer, and who are authorized to work in the duty station, will be considered.

1. Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Computer Science, Information Systems, Mathematics, Engineering or related field with 3 years of professional experience or Master’s degree in one of these fields with 1 year of professional experience. 
2. Professional certifications such as CTP, CFA, FRM will be a plus. 
3. Fluency in the English language and excellent communication skills, both spoken and written is required. 
4. Proven experience in data analytics and visualization, including SQL/Python and business intelligence platforms (e.g., Power BI, Tableau).
5. Demonstrated ability to identify and implement process automation solutions that improve efficiency and accuracy (e.g., Power Tools, AI-based tools, etc).
6. Strong technical proficiency, including advanced Excel and database management skills; experience with modern data environments (e.g., Azure, Dremio) is highly desirable.
7. Demonstrated ability to manage simultaneous competing demands to deliver on-time in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment.
8. Knowledge of and familiarity with Treasury business lines, back office operational functions and Treasury systems in particular banking, payment operations and cash management will be an advantage.
9. Self-starter with ability to take responsibility for own actions and learn quickly.
10. Detail-oriented with strong organization skills.

12.
