Position purpose
Under the supervision of the Director of the Financial Institutions Department (DFI), the Senior Bankers will play a pivotal role in driving business development across BSTDB member countries. They will be responsible for originating new business opportunities and managing existing portfolio operations with partner financial institutions. The role involves cultivating strong stakeholder relationships, aligning with the Bankโ€™s strategic objectives, and coordinating cross-departmental efforts to deliver high-quality project proposals for senior management and Board approval.
Senior Bankers are also expected to maintain a keen awareness of market trends through active engagement with market participants, ensuring the Bank remains agile and responsive to evolving market conditions.

Key functions and Responsibilities

Originate, screen, structure, and negotiate loan, equity, and guarantee transactions in both private and public sectors, in line with BSTDBโ€™s operational policies. Lead and coordinate project due diligence and prepare high-quality documentation for Credit Committee and Board of Directors approval. Monitor and supervise existing investments, ensuring compliance with legal terms and proactively managing amendments, consents, and waivers. Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, including senior management and shareholders, acting as the Bankโ€™s primary point of contact. Collaborate with internal departments to ensure effective project assessment, approval, and monitoring throughout the operation cycle. Represent BSTDB externally, engaging with IFIs/DFIs, government authorities, and the financial community. Identify client needs and develop tailored financial solutions aligned with the Bankโ€™s mandate and market conditions. Contribute to the development and refinement of internal procedures, guidelines, and business plans to reflect evolving market needs. Participate in recovery and restructuring efforts when necessary. Stay informed on market trends and developments to help adapt BSTDBโ€™s policies and practices to changing financial environments.

Required knowledge, Skills and Experience

First University degree in business administration, economics, finance or a relevant discipline in the business or economic sciences. Excellent Command of English. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook), with emphasis on Excel for financial analysis and reporting Strong financial modelling, credit analysis, and risk assessment capabilities. Ability to lead transactions and coordinate cross-functional teams throughout the project cycle. Proven ability to engage with financial institutions and stakeholders at senior levels. At least 8 years of relevant working experience in one or more of the following areas: relationship/origination/lending/risk management/financial analysis/research function (with a key focus on financial institutions) of a commercial or development bank, a major international investor or merchant, an international corporation or institution having BSTDB sector speciality. Solid understanding of the financial systems of BSTDB countries of operations.

Desirable Knowledge, Skills and Experience

Masterโ€™s degree in business administration, economics, finance or a relevant discipline in the business or economic sciences. Professional certifications such as ACA, ACCA, CIMA, CFA, CPA, or FRM. Excellent knowledge of a BSTDB member country language. Exposure to product development or adaptation of financial instruments in emerging markets. Experience in the BSTDB region. Experience in an international development financial institution.
