54 reasonsโ Student Advocacy Service works with students from pre-school up to 18 years and their families who are experiencing, or at risk of experiencing, exclusion from education. A place to make a difference:
In this part-time, maximum term (22.8 hours or 3 days per week, until March 2027) role, youโll work closely with the Team Leader and Specialist Advocate, based in our Winnellie office as well as operating and working alongside families and schools in Darwin and Palmerston areas. Your role will focus on providing an advocacy service for students attending or enrolling in Northern Territory Government (NTG) schools, and their families, to ensure they can access and participate in education.
You will make a difference by:
Working with children and families to identify strengths and establish goals towards achieving the childโs increased inclusion in education Assisting students and their families to understand and navigate the education system, practices and processes Referring the student and their family to support networks, organisations and information sources Working closely with relevant and appropriate stakeholders (i.e. Department of Education, NTG Schools, Service Providers, Peak Organisations) Collecting and recording program data and information for the purpose of planning, evaluation and reportingA place to feel valued:
Youโre a skilled practitioner who is passionate about advocating for children and young people. You use a strengths-based and client-centred approach, and have a strong understanding of child rights and the importance of access to education.
This role requires:
Demonstrated experience in working alongside children and young people, families and carers, particularly Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander, low socioeconomic and socially or geographically isolated families Understanding and experience of working within NTG school environments Knowledge and understanding of the stresses on vulnerable families and the range of family risk and protective factors which impact on child outcomes Ability to keep accurate records of work undertaken, including entering and maintaining information in an electronic databaseWe strongly encourage Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander candidates to apply.
