The Organization
The International Center for Tropical Agriculture (CIAT) is part of the Alliance of Bioversity International and CIAT. CIAT delivers research-based solutions that harness agricultural biodiversity and sustainably transform food systems to improve people's lives. CIAT solutions address the global crisis of malnutrition, climate change, biodiversity loss, and environmental degradation.
CIAT works with local, national and multinational partners across Latin America and the Caribbean, Asia and Africa, and with the public and private sectors. CIAT is part of CGIAR, a global research partnership for a food-secure future, dedicated to transforming food, land and water systems in a climate crisis.
About the position
The Intervention Package 8 \"Food Systems Transformation for More Nutritious and Healthy Diets--\" is one of eight intervention packages of the ASEAN-CGIAR Innovate for Food Regional Program (2023-2027). The ASEAN-CGIAR Program is a cross-disciplinary and demand-driven program that intends to scale up and out bold integrated innovations for the ASEAN agri-food systems and has been co-created and co-designed with the ASEAN Member States (AMS).ย
The Intervention Package 8 (IP8) is led by the Alliance of Bioversity International and CIAT (ABC) in collaboration with the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI). This specific IP will support country-led transformation processes to strengthen the connections between production, processing, distribution, and consumption to achieve food and nutrition security in the region. The IP will also enable ASEAN agri-food systems to deliver better livelihoods to stakeholders, as well as sustainable and healthy food for all consumers. As a result of IP8 work, millions of ASEAN stakeholders will enjoy consuming sustainable healthy diets, with an adequate supplyu202Fof sustainable, safe, and healthy foods and improved associated food-system livelihoods, with enhanced gender equity, and social inclusiveness across ASEAN food systems.ย
Food systems are complex, multi-dimensional and multisectoral. At present, there is a need to better understand the dynamics and performance of food systems at subnational and national/regional levels in order to strengthen their contribution to the Sustainable Development Goals. Consolidation and development of food system profiles at subnational and national/regional levels to one approach that can be used to better understand the status of the drivers and key areas of the food system.ย
In 2023-2025, three food system profiles have been developed across region, including Vietnam, Cambodia, and the Philippines. National food system profiles are crucial step to support evidence-based policy decision making process and propose proper action for initiating food systems transformation process as well as contributing to monitoring changes along the food systems transformation implementation process. A regional analysis of food systems across three countries is planned to be done to support decision-makers in planning and developing policies.ย
The consultant will be required to support researchers of CIAT to contribute to different activities to complete the transect country food system profile for three countries, including Vietnam, Cambodia, and the Philippines. The transect country food system profile is based on contents from three separate country food system profiles of the three countries.
