Work LocationNew York [New York] Expected duration9 Months Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe United Nations Secretary-General is responsible for the investment of the assets of the United Nations Joint Staff Pension Fund (UNJSPF). The Secretary-General has delegated this responsibility to the Representative of the Secretary-General for the investment of the assets of the UNJSPF (RSG). The RSG heads the Office of Investment Management (OIM), which manages a $95+ billion multi-asset class, global investment portfolio, about 85% of which is actively managed in-house. Asset classes under management comprise global equities, fixed income, foreign exchange, private equity, real estate, infrastructure, timber, and commodities. Under the supervision of the OIM Responsible Investment Officer (Impact and Partnerships), the consultant will be responsible for the following duties: โข Support ESG due diligence and monitoring processes across asset classes by reviewing sustainability- and ESG-related materials from investment managers, flagging key ESG considerations and tracking follow-up actions. โข Contribute to the tracking and analysis of ESG risks and opportunities at the portfolio or manager level using available internal and third-party tools. โข Support the documentation and review of external managersโ RI approaches, including updating internal records and highlighting gaps. โข Assist in the maintenance and updating of RI frameworks, tools and documentation to reflect evolving standards and internal developments across public and private markets. โข Conduct peer and market research to inform RI strategy development for external managers, including benchmarking of ESG practices, biodiversity and natural capital integration and climate-related targets. โข Draft internal memos and slide decks for internal audiences such as the investment committees or investment teams. โข Provide support in evaluating and tracking impact investments, ensuring alignment with internal classification frameworks, UN SDGs and KPIs for intentionality and measurability. โข Acts as an alternate OIM Responsible Investment team focal point for Impact investing and external managers, participating in regular check-ins with the various departments. โข Performs other assignments as required. Qualifications/special skillsAdvanced university degree (Masterโs degree or equivalent) in Business and Administration (MBA), sustainable finance, finance, economics, or a related field. A first-level university degree in combination with qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. Do you have an advanced university degree (Masterโs degree or equivalent) in Business and Administration (MBA), sustainable finance, finance, economics, or a related field. Do you have a minimum of three years of experience in sustainable investment, ESG or impact investing? Do you have experience conducting ESG or impact due diligence on external managers in public and/or private markets for institutional investors? Have you contributed to or supported the preparation of ESG memos, slide decks or ESG due diligence summaries for internal investment committees or decision-makers? Do you have experience engaging with ESG data and tools? Are you familiar with green, social, sustainability, or sustainability-linked bonds (GSSSB) and frameworks such as the ICMA Principles? Are you familiar with how ESG considerations differ across listed equities vs. private markets? Do you have experience mapping investments to the SDGs or contributed to a framework classifying impact investments? Do you have knowledge of relevant global frameworks such as PRI, SDGs, GIIN or IFRS S2? LanguagesEnglish and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the consultancy. Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an advantage.
