Mission and objectivesSince its opening in 1995, UNFPA in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) has been working on improving sexual and reproductive health and rights, empowerment of women, advancement of gender equality and advocating for the quality population data to be used for the development policies and strategies. With human rights and gender equality at the core of all interventions, the UNFPA supports progress towards: (a) accessible, affordable, high-quality, integrated sexual and reproductive health services; (b) strong accountability to eliminate all forms of discrimination; (c) empowered marginalized groups, with an emphasis on women, adolescents and youth (particularly girls); and (d) policies that strongly promote human rights. Achievement of these goals includes advocacy, policy dialogue and advice, capacity building, provision of data and evidence for policy development and knowledge management. UNFPA has been providing support to Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) since 1995 through a number of projects and initiatives at the policy and service levels, basing its work on the key principles and approaches, including human rights based approach, capacity building, local ownership and sustainability measures.

This assignment is part of UNFPA Bosnia and Herzegovinaโs ongoing efforts to explore innovative and technology-driven solutions for improving the accessibility, efficiency, and inclusivity of public services, especially for women, youth and marginalized communities. The focus of this task is to conduct research on the applications of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the community service sector, with an emphasis on service design. Online Volunteers will help analyze global and local trends, successful case studies, and emerging technologies that demonstrate how AI can be used to address challenges in healthcare, education, and social protectionโkey sectors that support peacebuilding and social equity in post-conflict settings like Bosnia and Herzegovina. The findings will directly feed into the development of a policy brief and concept notes that may inform future UNFPA programming and partnerships in the area of digital transformation for social impact. The research will also contribute to internal knowledge-building and the identification of potential pilot projects that leverage AI to bridge service gaps and foster community resilience.
Task DescriptionWe are looking for one of Online Volunteers who has experience in research with interest and experience in AI, who under the guidance of Samid Sarenkapic, Programme Analyst, Youth and Peace will: - Participate in defining the research scope and methodology - Identify and gather relevant sources and literature - Conduct desk research and summarize findings - Mapping potential AI applications tailored to the needs of youth and marginalized communities - Draft a concise report or briefing on findings and opportunities for AI integration - Develop initial sketches of potential project ideas and activities The average estimated workload includes reviewing and analyzing approximately 8โ10 key sources such as academic articles, case studies, tech trend reports, and policy papers related to the use of Artificial Intelligence in public service delivery. Volunteers will also support synthesizing findings, mapping innovative AI solutions, and collaborating on drafts of concept notes or policy briefs. The workload will be distributed across the assignment period and can be managed flexibly in coordination with the team
